Mr Ade was really exhausted with the news he just heard. He stood like a zombie for a while he was confused and he didnt know what to do. There was only one option left for him. He didnt ever think his condition would go to the extent of begging. But here he was at the end of the road. Lilian needed her medications, and so mr Ade removed his pride, removed everything’s that made him responsible and went into the streets of Lagos begging from one man, from one shop and from one house to the other.

Some persons helped him and gave him money and others insulted him. But he cared less. He kept begging and begging until he was able to raise 7,000 naira. He went back to the hospital and paid for the bills.

He met Loveth sitting by the bed side holding her little sister by the hand.

Loveth: Daddy you are back. Welcome.

Mr Ade: How’s your sister?

Loveth: She will he fine dad, you dont have to worry.

Mr Ade: where is your mom.

Loveth: she went to see her friend, she said she wants to see if she could give her some money.

Mr Ade: its alright.

Mr Ade sat besides his daughters. He was exhausted from moving around. Loveth stared at her dad and understood how much he must have went through.

Loveth: Daddy! What’s wrong?

Mr Ade: Love, I begged today, I went from house to house begging. Can you imagine that your own father, a beggar.

Loveth: Dad I thought you said you were going to see a friend who helped you some time ago.

Mr Ade; Yeah Love, unfortunately the man was in an accident and so I didnt see him. (He keeps quiet for a while before continuing) Love, something keeps telling me that his accident was because of me.

Loveth: Daddy why do you feel that way?

Mr Ade: I really dont know but that’s how I feel. And another thing that keeps bothering me is why people keep calling me an old man.

Loveth: What? People call you old man?

Mr Ade: Yes! All the jobs I hunted for, they keep telling me sorry because they feel am too old for the job and they keep calling me papa.

Loveth was quiet, she seemed to be lost in her own thoughts.

Mr Ade: Love are you with me?

Loveth: yes dad, am with you, it’s just that something is becoming clearer to me.

Mr Ade: And what is that?

Loveth: I’ve had this dream for sometime now. I see you as a very old and sick man. But then the face is no longer yours but the man on that portrait in our house.

Mr Ade: What?

Loveth: yes dad! I decided not to say anything because you wouldn’t believe me. But then I’ve been praying about it. (Mr Ade was quiet) Daddy in all of this have you called pastor Mike? I told you to call and invite him to the house and up till now you’ve not.

Mr Ade: I think its high time I do that.

Loveth: And dad that portrait that is all over the house we need to take them out.

Mr Ade: but the owner said we shouldn’t take them out of the house.

Loveth: Daddy we can just put them in a bag outside the house. It doesn’t have to be inside our house.

Mr Ade: Let’s talk about that when we get home okay.

Hr had barely finished his statement when Lilian started shouting from her sleep and jerking.

Mr Ade and Loveth called out for the doctor who quickly came out to check on Lilian but unfortunately for them she had passed out!
