THE LONGEST NIGHT Episodes 5 – 8

After church service, I went straight to Dera’s house to eat and also pick Ada. I wasn’t anybody’s slave. Dera was proud of me when I told her about my encounters with Uzor.
On our way home around 5pm, with Ada in the car, our stomach stuffed for the night, the car starts to jerk and eventually came to a halt. I alighted from the vehicle and opened the bonnet of the car but it looked like a matrix. I had zero knowledge on the mechanics of a car. Thirty minutes gone, I was clueless on what to do. My effort to flag down a car proved abortive as everyone seemed in a hurry to get home or do whatever.
Almost 6pm and with no help in sight, I resolved to park the car in a more convenient location then take a taxi home and called the mechanic to pick the car from this location the next day.

I envisaged pushing the car in my kitten heels, it seemed impossible but gradually I began to push the car slowly to its resting place for the night. I looked to my side and I noticed somebody join me. We got to a suitable location and stopped.
“ Thank you for helping, I’m grateful”. I said to the handsome stranger.
“You’re welcome”. He replied with a reassuring smile.
He had a pleasing and an handsome face, he looked good and his cologne was lovely.
“Where are you going from here”. He said interrupting my thoughts .
“Not too far from here”.
. I replied.
“Maybe I could drop you?” He offered.
I agreed and called Ada out of the car. He saw her and smiled. He introduced himself as Yemi and we walked to his car.
“Who dropped you off moments ago?” Uzor asked as he opened the door.
“ The car broke down and he offered to help us get to our destination”. I replied trying to take off my shoes.
“He”? He replied wide eyed
“Ada go into the room and take off your clothes, mummy would come bath you soon”. I said to Ada because I knew Uzor was about to explode.
“Okay mum”. Ada walked away.
“So you are dating someone already? We are not fully divorced and you’re dating someone already?” Uzor said.
“This is the situation of pot calling kettle black. You’ve been the one with a girl in this house and a stranger offers a ride and you are worked up? I have no strength for this”.
“Don’t walk out on me woman. I’m still your husband”. He tried to pull me back.
I pull my hand away from his grip.
“Don’t ever try to pull me like that again”. Shoes in my hands, I walked away.
He stood there transfixed and surprised I could respond in such manner. This was the first of many confrontations before I leave this house….
