Chapter Eight
Erica slowly brought out phone and stared at it.
She tapped the screen countless number of times but it didn’t turn on.
She dropped it on the table and continued tapping the screen repeatedly.
“Why won’t it switch on?” She murmured.
She use to see Ava double tap her screen then boom! It’s on.
She continued trying for a long time.

Calvin couldn’t concentrate because of the banging he was listening to.
He turned his head and saw that it was coming from Erica’s table.
He turned his chair and walked towards her.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
Erica stood up and stared at the phone.
“I was trying to switch it on. I think it’s broken” she said.
Calvin took the phone and pushed the button at the side of the phone and it came on.
Erica eyes shot wide open. When Calvin stared at her, giving her a what the fuck look, she turned her head away blinking repeatedly.
“You didn’t push the button”
“I forgot sir” she said in a low tone.
Calvin lips curved into a smile.
“You haven’t used a phone before, have you?” He asked and she shook her head.
He gave it back to her.
“Don’t tap the screen to switch on the phone. You have to go to the settings to make that happen by going to the gesture setting. Understood?”
Erica stared at him. She didn’t understand a single word he said.
“I’ll learn about that later. I need to work now sir” he said.
“Good!” He said and walked back to his chair.

Erica sat back on her chair and exhaled deeply.
“I’m not good with phone, but I am with computer” she said and switched it on.
She started work immediately.

“Erica?”
Erica heard her name and went to her boss.
“Yes sir”
“What time is it?” He asked.
“Uhh..” she replied and checked her wrist watch.
“It’s 12 already?” She replied in confusion.
“Good!” He replied and closed the file he was reading and took off his jacket.
Erica stepped back a little bit.
“You didn’t read the contract, I see. But you’ve signed it. Once it’s 12, it’s…”
“Sx time? Oh no, I didn’t sign for that” Erica quickly replied.
Calvin stared at her in mockery.
He didn’t know when he burst into laughter.
Erica’s lips curved into a weird smile.
“Once it’s 12, it’s lunch time. Come on, let’s go” he said and head out of his office.

Erica sighed and ran to take the I-pad which contained vital information about Calvin and his business.

She followed him out of the office, walking behind him.
She watched as he played with his employees.
He was quite friendly.
Erica saw her brother and waved at him. George replied with a wink.

The driver pulled over in front of company.
Erica quickly opened the door for him to enter into the car.
Calvin stared at her and got into the car.
Erica sat beside the driver.
“You just look for ways to impress me Erica” he said out loud.
Erica heard that and looked out of the window.
“Thank you sir” that was the only word she could say.

She wondered where they were headed. She saw that the driver stopped in front of the Cafe where she worked before.
She got down from the car and opened the door for him.
Calvin adjusted his tie and walked into the Cafe.
“Ah jeez!” She thought and followed him behind.
They both walked towards the counter.
“Anyone here!” He said.
“Ava?” Erica called out.
Ava suddenly showed up. She catwalked towards the counter. On seeing Calvin, she started misbehaving.
“I guess you two know each other” he said.
Erica quickly nodded.
Ava was surprised with what she was seeing.
“Is he your boyfriend? Oh my gosh, finally you’ve gotten a boyfriend. You should go a date and…”
“Ava?! Stop!”
“Fine. I won’t tell your brother. I know that’s what you are going to say. But you are supposed to…”
“I’m her boss”
“Yeah, boss. Wait, what?” Ava realize what she has been saying.
She comported herself and glanced at Erica.
“I’m really sorry sir. Can I take you order?” She changed into a serious voice.
Erica sIapped her forehead.
“I’m really sorry sir” she apologized.
“It’s okay, what are you going to take?” He asked.
“Uh, anything is fine by me” she replied.
“Fine, we’ll take anything is fine by me and my usual”
Ava secretly blushed and left.
She came back with something special for Erica and two boxes of hamburger and two lemonade for Calvin.
He brought out his card and paid for them.
“Thank you sir!” Ava said.
Calvin quickly left the counter, walking towards the door.
“Ava, what have you done?” Erica whispered as she took their meal from the counter.
“I didn’t know he was your boss. I’ve met him number of times here. Is he the man in your dreams?”
Erica nodded.
“I’ll talk to you later. Bye!” She said and left.
Ava stared at Erica as she walked out of the Cafe.
“Wow, Erica”

She got into the car and wore her seatbelt.
“Let’s go” she whispered to the driver.
He kick started the engine and they drove off.
Erica still couldn’t get what Ava said off her mind.
“How could she think I’m dating him? Gross!” She said and rolled her eyes.

They got to the company and went straight into the office.
She placed his lunch on his table and took hers to her table.
“Thanks for the lunch sir!” She said before leaving.
Erica opened the box and saw a letter in it.
She picked it and opened it.
She saw Ava’s writing in it.
“He’s cute” she read it softly.
“Ava?!” She groaned and threw the paper into the trashcan.
“What’s she thinking?” She murmured.
“Erica?” Calvin called out.
She stood up and walked towards his table.
“Yes sir?”
“Take the second box to my brother. Tell him it’s from me” he said.
Erica immediately remembered how he shouted at her yesterday.
She shot her eyes for some seconds and opened them.
She took the box and turned to leave the office.
“Oh please God, don’t let anything go wrong” she prayed as she walked towards the door.
