Chapter Seventy

Erica went back to the party with Kelvin. The first person they bumped into was Mr Greg.
“Oh, dad?” Kelvin called out.

“I was looking for you Kelvin…”

“I’ll give you two some space” Erica said, wanting to leave but Mr Greg stopped her.

“No, you don’t have to. You are his wife, you should know whatever thing he knows. I wanted to put you in charge of the new company. I hope that’s okay” he said. Kelvin’s lips curved into a smile. He had no idea why his father started acting nice to him since the day they had a family lunch.

“Why are you acting nice towards me? Everyone knows you and I aren’t close, so… You don’t have to act”

“I understand Kelvin. I know you don’t like me because I’m been harsh and unfair to you”

“No, I never said I dislike you father. Every time, I try to impress you but nothing change after that” he interrupted his father. Erica hope this ends well. She just remained quiet, doing nothing.

“I’m sorry Kelvin. Find a place in your heart to forgive your father” he said, holding Kelvin’s hand.
Kelvin sighed and nodded.

“Fine, I will handle the company” he said. Mr Greg smiled and hugged his son. Erica chuckled softly.

“Come on, enjoy the party” he said and left them. They walked towards Calvin and Ava.

“Oh here they are, no one beats my brother in drinking competition” Calvin said.

“Oh yeah, then I challenge you two to a drinking competition!” Ava said.

“It’s a deal” Kelvin said.

“Can I join?” Erica asked.

“No!!!” The three of them chorused. Erica shut her eyes quickly, they frightened her a little.

“Why?” She asked and pouted her lips like a child.

“Drinking is not your thing. You go crazy whenever you’re drunk” Kelvin said. Erica wore a shocking expression. She couldn’t believe her husband could say that to her.

“Above all, you are pregnant” Ava concluded. Erica frowned and placed her hands on her waist.

“Where is it written that a pregnant woman can’t drink?” She asked.

“Everywhere Erica, everywhere!”

“Hey Erica”
She heard her name and turned, only to see Olivia.

“Oh jeez!” Ava saw her and rolled her eyes.

“What is she doing here?” Calvin asked angrily.

“Relax, she’s my friend” she said, staring at Calvin.

“Was. She was your friend” Ava corrected her. Erica shook her head and stared back at Olivia.

“The security didn’t let me in. I just finally got the chance to see you and congratulate you” she said.

“Thank you, join the party” Erica replied.
Olivia walked towards Ava.

“Hey”

“Don’t hey me Olivia. How could you be so wicked?” Ava asked.

“Do you want me to send her out?” Calvin asked.

“Relax baby…” Ava said. Erica and Kelvin quickly stared at Calvin.

“Baby?”

“No, she calls everyone baby. Don’t look at me that way” he said and looked away.

“Something’s definitely fishy between these two” Kelvin murmured.

“I’m sorry Ava. I know it’s hard for you to forgive me but, it’s okay”

“I will, on one condition”

“Tell me” she asked.

“Join the drinking competition” Ava said.

“Then it’s a deal” Olivia said as her lips curved into a smile.

“Can I join?” Erica asked again.

“No!!!” Everyone, including Olivia yelled. Erica groaned and sat on a chair, staring at her phone.

The wedding was the talk of the whole town, even the part that they swapped the groom. Erica was the happiest girl in town.

Kelvin ended up taking care of his father’s company. He moved to his private house with his dear wife to have some privacy.
Ava also ended up being the wife of the CEO, Calvin. It was something she never expected, all thanks to Erica.

Erica was on her way to the kitchen with her huge stomach. She opened the refrigerator and picked some fresh fruit. She was on the call with her husband.
“I’m fine, I’m just in the kitchen” she said.

“I’m worried about you Erica. You are way too stubborn. I don’t want you leaving the house”

“I’m not leaving! Trust me” she said.

“Should I?” He asked and Erica chuckled. She took a huge bite from the apple.
As she chewed slowly, her water broke. She stared at the files and placed the apple on the table.

“Oh no” she murmured.

“What happened? Erica?!” Kelvin yelled from the phone.

“I..I think my water just broke” she said.

“Erica, stay right there. I’ll come take you to the hospital” Kelvin said. He was already running out of his office.

“I can drive myself to the hospital. It’s fine”

“Please Erica, for God sake, don’t do it. I’m coming right now”

“What about the driver?” She asked.

“No, no, I can’t trust any f*cking body. I’ll be at home in less than thirty minutes” he said and disconnected the call. His employees were staring at him as he was running out of the company. He got into his car and drove off.

Erica picked her apple and started eating. She walked out of the kitchen slowly. She wasn’t feeling any pain yet. She had time to change into something else but as she left the closet. The pain started.

“Argh!” She groaned. She stopped by the door and leaned her hand on the lintel.
She couldn’t move.

“Oh jeez, this pain is getting worse. Argh!” She groaned again. She slowly sat on the floor, carefully with her hands on her stomach.
Her phone started ringing but it was far from her. She dragged herself to the bed which was almost eight feet from where she was.
She paused and groaned again. She started sweating profusely in the cold room.

She finally got to the bed and picked the phone. It was Kelvin calling. She tried calling him back.

“Erica? Are you there?” He asked.

“Y..yeah, I am” she whispered.

“I’m on my way okay, just hang on. There’s a lot of traffic on the way” he said.

“I can’t hold on anymore Kelvin. She’s kicking!!” She yelled.

“Fine, I’ll call the ambulance to come get you. Hold on for me, okay?” He said and disconnected the call. He called the Greg hospital.

Erica was laying on the floor. She was in so much pain.
The nurse ran into the room and grabbed Erica. They took her into the ambulance and drove off to the hospital. They got to the hospital after ten minutes. They hurried into the labor room immediately.

Kelvin arrived after some minutes. He rushed into the hospital and started parading left and right. He was panicking.
Calvin and Ava rushed into the hospital.

“How’s she?” Calvin asked.

“No news yet” he replied slowly.

“Relax, Erica is a strong woman. She will be fine” Ava replied. She didn’t like the way Kelvin was being impatient. He tried to relax but it was not possible.

The doctor finally walked out with his stethoscope around his neck. He stared at Calvin and Kelvin, wondering which of them was the husband.

“Um…” He murmured.

“He’s the husband” Ava finally helped him.

“Oh, congratulations” he said. Everyone heaved a breath of relief. Kelvin closed his face with happiness.

“Can we see her now?”

“Not now, she’s having her rest”

“Thank you doctor” he said.

Tracy was carrying her little granddaughter. She was rocking her slowly. Erica just stared at them with a simple smile on her face.

“Can I hold my daughter now?” Kelvin asked.

“No, I’m next!” Ava yelled.

“No, she’s my daughter!”

“She’s my… Daughter too!” Ava yelled too.
As they were arguing, Calvin carried the baby from his mother and started to rock her. She just made her baby sound.

Ava and Kelvin finally stopped arguing. Kelvin shook his head and went to Erica.

“How are you feeling now?” He asked.

“Better” she replied.

“I bet Ashley will be so happy to have a mother like you” he said. Erica’s lips curved into a weird smile.

“Yeah, she would” she said.
“I want a drink” she added.

“You are…”

“I’m what? Pregnant?” She asked.

“You can’t still drink Erica. I’ve ordered some meal for you. It will be here soon” he said.

Ava finally carried the baby.
“Oh, so cute!” She squealed happily. It has been a long time she carried a little baby.
Erica and Kelvin’s turned to face Ava after she made that silly sound.

“Whenever any fking ngga tries to hurt you huh? You ki¢k him right on the spot and run away. Then pause and raise your index finger and yell ‘fk you!'” Ava said.

“Ava, can you stop teaching my baby trash?” Erica asked. Calvin and Kelvin gave a soft chuckle. Tracy shook her head jokingly.

“What? She has a lot to learn from me. Like motherfker, ¢razy a** bch!…”

“Ava?!!” Erica yelled.
Everyone started laughing. Erica rolled her eyes and looked away from her $illy friend. She hope her baby won’t be as mad as she is. But she was the best friend and also sister she ever had. She was grateful for having such a perfect family. Indeed, she was the luckiest person alive.
