THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 31 – 40

EPISODE 39

Pete sat on his office seat tapping distractedly on his desk as he kept glancing at the clock. It was almost time for lunch break. Was Kathleen still going out with that guy? Who was he? Pete asked suddenly feeling very worried about his ’employee’. This was Ken’s fault. Ken had planted the seed of lust in his heart and the conversation he had overheard between Kathleen and her sister the previous night had only helped to water the seed of lust.

Without thinking Pete stood up from his seat and walked out of his office, heading for straight Kathleen’s office. It wasn’t until he got to the office that he realized he didn’t have anything in mind to say to her.

Kathleen was very engrossed in her work that she didn’t realize Pete was in the office until her colleagues who had been chattering non-stop suddenly became silent. Her heart skipped a beat when she raised her head and saw Pete standing there. She quickly reminded herself that she was still on operation pepper them, so she pretended not to be surprised and flashed him a smile instead, “Are you here to see me?” She asked, surprising Pete who was slightly taken aback by her smile.

Pete cleared his throat, “Yeah.”

“You could have just called me. You didn’t have to walk down here.” She said as she pushed away from the table. She turned to look at Dave who was looking at her in confusion, “I’ll be right back.” She said before walking towards Pete.

If Pete had any doubt that Ken was a devil, the doubt cleared from his mind when he glanced at Kathleen as she walked towards him in her gown and started imagining having her on his office desk. He began to wonder what sort of undies Christian girls like her put on. He thought about clearing his desk and having her lie on it while he explored her body.

“Let’s go.” Kathleen whispered with a confused frown on her face as she walked past him, wondering what he was thinking and why he was staring at her in that manner.

Pete noticed he was beginning to have a bulge in his trouser and quickly turned around to follow Kathleen. What the he¢k was going on in his head all of a sudden? This time yesterday he was seeing her as just his employee he wanted to have friendly relationship with because of Amanda, and all of a sudden he was imagining having her on his office desk? What kind of madness was going on in his head?

“So?” Kathleen asked when they got to the passage way between her office and his office.

“So?” Pete repeated in confusion.

“What did you want?” Kathleen asked with a frown wondering why he was suddenly acting slow.

Now was the time to come up with something really smart. Anything. “Oh! Uhm, I wanted to let you know we might be leaving late today, so you can come over to my office after closing hours.” Pete lied.

“Oh! I could just take a BRT.” Kathleen said with a shrug.

“Why? Is there somewhere you’re in a hurry to go to? Perhaps a date with your imaginary doctor boyfriend?” Pete asked making her glare at him. She was really beginning to regret telling him the truth.

“Are you still going out for lunch with your friend who just got a new job?” Pete asked, changing the subject suddenly.

“Sure. Why?”

“Nothing. Just asking. You can get back to your office.” Pete said cocking his head in the direction of her office.

“You came all the way here just to tell me to come to your office after close of work? You couldn’t call?” Kathleen asked with a frown. It didn’t make sense to her.

“Well, MTN network was very poor so the call wasn’t connecting. Besides, I needed to stretch my legs a bit. You can go return to work.” He said looking at her and waiting for her to leave.

Kathleen was feeling very reluctant about turning her back to him while he was still watching her that way, but she had no choice but to leave. Just as she turned around her phone started ringing. “Hey! You’re outside? I’ll join you in five minutes.” Kathleen said as she quickened her pace and hurried to her office without minding Pete.

The guy was here already? Pete wondered and quickly headed for his office to pick up his phone and car key, “Hold my calls. I’m heading out for lunch.” Pete told his secretary as he hurried out.

He walked over to his car and sat there waiting for Kathleen to come out so he would see who she was going out with. Soon she stepped out, her face looked like she had just applied fresh make-up to it. Pete watched as Chuka stepped out of a 2018 BMW 3 series and approached Kathleen.

“Wow! You look completely different!” Chuka exclaimed as he approached Kathleen.

“I could say the same for you. Don’t tell me that is an official car, cause I know it isn’t.” Kathleen said, eyeing the car suspiciously.

“Fine. I lied. I actually started doing money rituals and…” Chuka burst into laughter when he saw the horriefied expression on her face, “I’m just pulling your legs. Do you believe everything you’re told? Come let me show you something.” He told her as he led her to the car while Kathleen glared at him for messing with her.

He opened the pigeonhole compartment of the car and brought out the car documents, “This is a secret and has to stay between us, okay?” He asked, and when Kathleen nodded he showed it to her.

“But this isn’t your name.” She said with a frown when she saw the owner’s name displayed on it as Tunde Eric Obasan.

“Yeah. It actually belongs to my friend. I’m working in his company and living in his house, so I’m driving his car. You’re the only one I’m telling this because I see you as my sister, so you can’t tell anyone else.” He said making Kathleen sigh in relief.

“At least I’m glad it’s not yahoo or ritual that you did. It’s fine. So where are we going to?” Kathleen asked with a smile as she got into the car.

“Well, I was able to use Google map to check for good restaurants around here. I found one, so let’s just go there. But seriously you look very fine. You don’t have any friend who is single but as fine as you?” He asked as he got into the car and turned on the ignition.

What were they talking about and why was he showing her his papers? He was probably bragging and showing off, Pete who had been watching them mused with a scowl on his face as he turned on his car. He intended to tail them and see where they were going to.

“So? Are we going to get down or remain in the car?” Eric asked when he stopped the car in front of the house yet Kimberly made no attempt to get out of the car.

“Sure. We will get down.” Kimberly said with a forced smile. She still couldn’t tell why she always felt anxious whenever she was seeing her father.

Eric sighed and got out of the car before going to her side of the car to open the door, he held her face between both hands and looked into her face, “You don’t have to feel so anxious, I’m right here with you.” He assured her making her laugh nervously.

“You don’t have to do that. Nobody is watching us yet.” She said as she playfully brushed his hands away.

Eric said nothing as he stepped aside for her to get out of the car. She was dressed in a decent purple colored knee length Corporate gown and a black high heeled slipper, while he was dressed in a blue shirt which tucked into a black chinos trouser. Eric reached into the backseat of the car and took out the bottle of wine they had gotten on their way, before taking her hand.

“Good morning Sir. Good morning Kim.” A lady in her mid thirties who seemed like she had just finished cleaning the living room greeted the moment Kimberly and Eric walked in through the door.

“Good morning. How’re you?” Eric asked politely.

“Aunty Joy! How’re you?” Kimberly asked at the same time with a friendly smile.

“Fine o. Long time.” She said with a wide smile seeing that Kimberly was with a man.

“No see. Meet my boyfriend, Eric. Eric, Aunty Joy.” Kimberly said with a shy smile.

“You’re welcome sir. Let me go and inform Oga that you’re both here.” Joy said before heading for the staircase.

“You seem friendly with her. Is she a relative?” Eric asked curiously.

“Not related by blood. But she has been with our family for quite sometime, so she’s family.” Kimberly said quietly, raised her head when she heard her step mother’s footsteps as she descended the stairs.

“Your father is in the shower.” Amaka announced with a smile as she approached them.

Eric glanced at Amaka and his heart skipped a beat, as he turned to look at Kimberly questioningly, “Yeah, that’s my step mother.” She muttered under her breath, guessing he was probably surprised by how young she looked.

“Good morning.” Kimberly greeted.

“So this is the guy you were telling me about… I have to admit he looks quite handsome… More handsome than I expected.” Amaka said as she looked Eric over. Wonders indeed would never end. Who would have thought she was going to meet Eric this way after over seven years?

Eric on the other hand quickly recovered from his initial shock, “Good morning ma’am. It’s nice to meet you.” Eric said with a polite smile hoping she would understand that he would rather they both pretend like they didn’t know each other. The last thing he wanted was for Kimberly to find out anything about him this way.

“The pleasure is certainly all mine. Please sit down and make yourself comfortable… And as you can see, I’m not so old, so none of that ma’am nonsense. You can just call me Amaka.” Amaka said with a small smile, before calling for the maid to serve them drinks.

“I’m Eric King.” Eric said politely, making her eyes flicker. Why was he using his nickname instead of his real name? She wondered.

“It’s good to meet you Eric. So how long have you both been going out?” She asked curiously her gaze fixed on Eric.

“Can we leave the questions until Dad joins us?” Kimberly asked, cutting in.

“Well, I and your father are the same. So I don’t see why we can’t engage in small talk until he gets here, right Eric?” Amaka asked fluttering her lashes at Eric.

“Right. We only just started dating on Sunday.” Eric said honestly, making Amaka look at him in confusion. This was just Wednesday, that meant they hadn’t known each other for even up to a week, so why was he here?

“And you want to marry her already? Why?” Amaka asked bluntly. Wondering why Eric would want to marry someone like Kimberly after what happened between them both.

“Why else would a man want to marry a woman? I want to marry her because I’m very much in love with her obviously.” Eric said turning to look at Kimberly with a warm smile. He noticed how tense she looked and raised her hand in his own to drop a kss on her palm.

Kimberly’s heart skipped a beat and she blinked several times as she gazed into Eric’s eyes in surprise, while Amaka’s heart also skipped a beat. She was slightly taken aback by the romantic gesture since it was something Eric used to do to her in the past too. Amaka cleared her throat, “Uhm, that’s nice. So how did you both meet?” She asked as the maid served them.

“You want to tell her, or I should?” Eric asked, still looking at Kimberly who seemed like she was yet to recover from the surprise of what he had just done.

“Go on.” Kimberly said in a husky voice before clearing her throat.

“Well, it was a matter of love at first sight for me, I don’t know about her. I was borrowing my friend’s cab that Sunday, and her car broke down by the roadside so she flagged me down. I asked her to have lunch with me and to my utmost surprise she agreed.” Eric said with a grin, still looking at Kimberly whose heart was yet to settle.

A part of Kimberly suddenly wished this was true and Eric wasn’t just acting. Even though she always claimed she wasn’t interested in love and all of that, but she couldn’t deny to herself that a part of her wished for it. She always told Prisca and anyone else that she wasn’t interested in it because she was scared she was never going to be able to experience it. Not with her lifestyle, and especially not with her money, because she knew only a gold digger would want to really marry someone like her.

“I see.” Amaka said with a stiff smile. If he said he had borrowed his friend’s cab, that meant he was trying to imply to Kimberly that he didn’t have a car of his own, which she knew wasn’t true. This had to explain what Kimberly had said about her boyfriend not wanting the marriage to be a big one. This had to mean he was hiding his true identity for her, and was pretending to be poor, but why?

She could also guess that Kimberly had agreed to go out with him because her father had insisted she get married, so she had settled for the first man who had asked her out, regardless of who he was.

She had to admit that Eric looked even more handsome and attractive now than he had been seven years ago when they were in the higher institution. It had been quite sometime since she was last this sexually attracted to anyone or since she allowed herself give in to the urge of being with anyone else aside from her husband. But now that she was seeing Eric again, all the desires and longings from the past were coming back with full force. There were quite a number of things she could imagine herself doing to him, and him doing to her on bed. Amaka thought as she gazed at him lustfully.

“Why don’t you go and see if your father is out of the bathroom? He might want to speak with you privately before he meets your man.” Amaka suggested with a smile.

“Okay.” Kimberly said and started to stand up slowly but Eric pulled her down.

“You’ll be okay.” He whispered to her and brushed his lips on her cheek before letting her go. Kimberly quickly stood up and hurried away, her heart beat soared.

Immediately her footsteps faded away Amaka flashed Eric a smile, “It’s good to see you again.”

Eric sighed, “I see you’ve been doing well for yourself. For old times sake do me a favour, act like you don’t know me.” Eric told her coldly.

“Come on, you can’t tell me you’re still mad at me after so many years. It’s been seven years. Didn’t you even miss me?” Amaka asked making Eric snort.

“I see you haven’t changed. You are still as irresponsible as ever. Need I remind you that you’re in your husband’s house, and you should be mindful of what you say? Especially to strange men?” Eric asked making Amaka frown.

“Fine. Where do you live? Maybe I should pay you a visit and then we can talk…”

“There is nothing to talk about. And you better don’t get on my nerves.” He warned her sternly.
