THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 61 – 70

EPISODE 64

“You really need to calm down and stop moving about.” Eric called wearily, but Kimberly wasn’t listening to him. She just kept looking at the house from different angles to make sure nothing was out of place.

She had been busy cleaning the house when Wumi had called an hour earlier to ask for descriptions to her house and also to inform her she was on her way. Since she received the call she had become even more tense and had started cleaning all over again.

“Kim!” Eric called again, as he walked over to where she was and dragged the rag from her hand, forcing her to look into his face.

“What?” She asked in confusion.

“You’re doing too much. The house is squeaky clean and everything is in place. You’re behaving like she is the president’s daughter or your mother in-law.” Eric said feeling slightly annoyed at how hard she was trying to impress anyone at all, even if that person was his own sister.

“She is the sister of the man who would award me a life-changing contract, so she is even more important than the president’s daughter to me at this point. If you won’t be helpful, kindly excuse me. I still need to call the caterer to find out where she is with the food. You know she has to arrive before Mimi.” Kimberly said distractedly as she started walking past Eric.

“Wumi won’t even notice any of this, so you’re wasting your time.” Eric told her confidently making her turn around to look at him. It wasn’t until she glanced at him that he realized he had slipped.

“You said you don’t know her.” Kimberly reminded him.

“I don’t know her in person doesn’t mean I haven’t heard of her from her brother. Tunde is always singing her praise, so I know a lot about her.” Eric quickly explained.

“You do? You could have said so yesterday and saved me a lot of stress. You don’t happen to know her favorite color or her hobby do you?” Kimberly asked curiously.

Eric felt like rolling his eyes, but he could tell she was sincerely anxious and this really meant a lot to her, so he decided to relax and just answer her questions, “If I remember correctly her favorite color is purple, and I think her brother mentioned something about her liking to travel. She also likes to meet new people, and she loves reading novels too.” Eric said with a shrug.

“Hmm… Were you having a crush on her before?” Kimberly couldn’t help feeling slightly jealous at how much he knew about another lady.

Eric’s brows furrowed in confusion, “No. Why?”

“For someone who has never even met her in person, who didn’t recognize her yesterday, you seem to know so much about her.” Kimberly pointed out making Eric sigh. Women! What did they really want?

“I just told you her brother was the one who told me these things, right?” Eric asked wearily.

“Yeah, but even at that, if you didn’t care about her you wouldn’t have taken note of the things are brother told you, right?” Kimberly insisted. She had asked for Wumi’s favorite color so she would

“Is this you being jealous?” Eric asked directly.

“Jealous? Me? This is me saying you know another woman more than me. Can you tell me what my favorite color is? And my hobbies?” Kimberly asked curiously.

“You love colors generally, but I think you particularly prefer red, white and black. And your hobbies include seeing movies and clubbing. Am I wrong?” He asked with a slightly raised brow.

“Who told you any of that?”

“Well, we both know for a fact that you didn’t tell me, since somehow you just don’t like talking about yourself. But I noticed from the decor in your living room and in your bedroom that those are the prominent colors there. And when I spied your closet, those were the colors of most of the clothes too.” Eric explained with a shrug.

“And the hobby thing?”

“Well, I noticed you have a lot of movies on your phone and you have Netflix. That could only mean you love seeing movies at your spare time. As for the club thing, I know you like clubbing. And that reminds me, I’ve gotten the contact of one of the best therapists in the country, so we will go see him soon.” Eric said, changing the subject.

“A man?” She asked with displeasure and Eric could tell what she was thinking. What if he tried to take advantage of her situation and tries to have sx with her too?

“I could have easily picked a lady, but I think it’ll be best a man does it. And don’t worry, I’ll personally go with you for your sessions and sit out in case you need me, okay?” Eric asked softly, but before Kimberly could respond she heard the honk of a car.

“Shit! You distracted me! I’m yet to call the caterer and Mimi is here already!” Kimberly exclaimed, as she shot Eric a glare, but he caught her arm before she could hurry past him, and pulled her close to himself.

“Relax, I’ll handle this. So just go in and change your outfit while I get her settled and catch up with her. She could even be more open-minded if I tell her I’m friends with her brother, you know?” He told her before kssing her forehead.

“You’re sure?” Kimberly asked doubtfully.

“Yes. So just go in. Trust me, okay?” He assured her before heading for the door.

THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 61 – 70

Immediately Kimberly got into her bedroom, she slipped off her playsuit and walked into the shower. Once in, she tried relaxing herself with thoughts of Eric’s massage the previous evening. Her heart skipped a beat when she remembered the passionate kss they had shared, but unfortunately Eric had stopped it before it could go further.

“Not yet. I promised you six months, remember?” He had asked before getting off the bed.

“Where are you going to?” She had asked, trying not to sound disappointed.

“My bedroom. It was stated in your terms and conditions that you don’t want to share bedrooms unless a visitor is around, remember?” He had asked making her frown.

“But I thought we already broke all those rules? Didn’t you say we should make the arrangement real for the duration of one year?” Kimberly had asked in confusion.

“So you want us to share a room?” Eric had asked from the doorway.

“If it’s okay by you.” Kimberly had said, trying not to sound too eager.

“Okay. Let’s discuss it tomorrow. Goodnight.” Eric had said before walking out of the room, leaving her there staring at the door.

Immediately Ella returned to her office, she got busy with work, since she had to look through her books to balance her account, as well as have a meeting with her employees and find out what products needed to be restocked, and get customer feedbacks from them.

It wasn’t until mid afternoon before she was done, and then she realized she hadn’t checked on Kathleen for quite sometime, so she opened her WhatsApp and decided to text her, just in case she was in the middle of a meeting.

“Fine Lady!” She texted with a heart emoticon, and surprisingly Kathleen responded Immediately.

“Hey! I’m sorry I haven’t checked up on you, I’ve been really busy.” Kathleen texted back.

“Of course I understand. Can you talk now? Can I call?” Ella texted.

“Yeah. Sure.” Kathleen texted, and before she could say jack, Ella’s call came in, and she quickly received it.

“I’m so sorry I haven’t called to find out how your mom and Isioma are doing. How are they?” Ella asked curiously.

“They’re fine. My mom even asked after you this morning as I was leaving for work.” Kathleen said, leaving out the part where her mother had also suggested that Ella was in a relationship with Pete’s friend.

“Awww! She did? I really miss her and her drama.” Ella said with a giggle.

“Don’t even get me started on that. How have you been? How is business?” Kathleen asked, ignoring her colleagues who she knew were probably eavesdropping on her phone call so they would see something to gossip about in her absence.

“Business is good, all thanks to God. How about that movie I said we would see at the cinema? Are you up for it tomorrow? We could take Isioma and Amanda along with us.” Ella suggested.

“Yes… No. Not tomorrow.” Kathleen said with a shake of her head when her eyes fell on the box by her desk which she was yet to open, and she remembered she had a date with Pete.

“Why? What’s happening? A church program?” Ella asked in a teasing tone.

“Well, I actually have a dinner date tomorrow.” She said in a lower tone so her colleagues wouldn’t hear what she said.

“Your boyfriend is in town?” Ella asked excitedly making Kathleen close her eyes. She had almost forgotten she had lied to Ella about being in a distant relationship. She couldn’t possibly lie to Ella again, since Ella was bound to find out the truth sooner or later. But could she tell Ella that the person she was going on a date with was Pete? Would Pete want his sister to know yet? How would Ella react to it?

“Ngozika?” Ella called making Kathleen raise a brow.

“Yes, Kemi?” Kathleen called back making Ella giggle.

“Who told you my Yoruba name?” She asked curiously.

“I saw it on the net of course. I was checking out your family. If I’m working for your brother and living under his roof I need to know his family, abi?” She asked making Ella smile.

“Sure. So your boyfriend is in town?”

“Not exactly. See you have to keep this a secret, since I don’t know if he wants you to know about it, but your brother is the one taking me out tomorrow.” Kathleen said, deciding to confide in Ella since they were friends after all.

“Pete? Like you mean Kunle is the one taking you out?” Ella asked unable to hide her surprise.

“Yes. He asked me to… See, I’m in the office and can’t really give you the details, so maybe we can talk later.” Kathleen suggested.

“I can’t wait for this gist o. Can’t you step out a little? Please nau!” Ella pleaded making Kathleen giggle.

“I have to finish up before I leave, so just call me later in the evening.” Kathleen said.

“Maybe I’ll just drop by the house so I can see your mom. She must be excited about this date, abi? Wait, are you sure she didn’t set it up herself?” Ella asked thoughtfully.

“I will give you the details when we see or talk. Take care.” Kathleen said with a giggle before disconnecting the call. She made a mental note to call both Chuka and Sharon and tell them of the recent developments. Of course she was going to make sure to leave out the kitchen romance. That one was too embarrassing to tell anyone else.

Ken had never felt as happy or excited as he was feeling that afternoon as he got out of his car carrying a take away food pack in one hand, and a small bag of snacks in the other hand as he headed for Ella’s office. He had been thinking about her all morning and had decided to drop by her office to see how she was doing, and maybe just to be sure her best friend hadn’t turned her heart against him.

The moment Ella’s secretary saw him she looked away and pretended like she hadn’t see him, “Hello! Good afternoon.” He greeted the secretary cheerfully but she only nodded and looked away.

“I’m sorry about yesterday. You can’t blame me, love was catching me.” Ken said apologetically as he dropped the food pack on the table, “I got this for you on my way here, I really hope you will forgive me and be friends with me now that I’m dating your boss.” Ken said with a small smile making her look at him.

He was really dating Ella now? She wondered, but said nothing as she looked down at the food pack. It was hard being angry with a man who buys food to apologise, “Okay. I will call her and let her know you are here.” She said with a polite smile as she took the food pack and laid it on the floor.

Less than a minute later Ken was strolling into Ella’s office with a grin on his face, “How is my baby doing?” He asked Ella who rolled her eyes at him.

“You’re now a regular visitor to my office. Are you sure I shouldn’t just set up an office for you here?” She asked dryly, trying not to show she was happy to see him.

“Maybe you should. In your heart though.” Ken said with a wink as he walked over to where she was seated and dropped a kss on her forehead and dropped the bag of snacks in front of her.

“Who would have thought you could be this r®mantic?” She asked with a pleased smile when she noticed he had picked out all her favorite childhood snacks.

“I guess the right person brings out the romantic in you. How’s your day going?” Ken asked as he dropped on the seat opposite her.

“Not bad. Are you aware that my brother is taking Kathleen out on a date tomorrow?” She asked before remembering Kathleen had asked her to keep it a secret.

Eric stood by the door, and waited until Wumi successfully parked the car and got out of it before heading in her direction. She was dressed in a simple black jean trouser and a gray colored polo shirt, with a pink face cap which matched her hand bag and Pam slippers.

Wumi grinned broadly when she saw her brother walking towards her, dressed in a three-quarter short and a tank top. She looked behind him to be sure Kimberly wasn’t there, but before she could open her mouth, he shook his head to stop her.

“Good afternoon Wumi, I’m Eric King, and your brother Tunde has told me so much about you.” Eric said for the benefit of whoever was possibly watching them as he extended his hand for a handshake.

Wumi’s already wide smile, broadened even more, seeing her brother showing off his acting skills, “Oh! You’re the Eric I’ve been hearing about? It’s so nice to finally meet you.” Wumi said as she took his hand and he led her inside.

“My wife will be out in a moment, so sit down and make yourself comfortable. What can I offer you?” Eric asked, and without waiting for her to say anything he walked over to the refrigerator and took out a plastic bottle of coke which was her favorite drink.

“Oh! Thanks.” Wumi said as she took the drink from him and looked around the apartment, “You have quite a lovely home.”

“Thanks. My wife will be very pleased to hear that, considering all the trouble she went through just to put the house in order for your visit.” Eric said with an amused smile which made Wumi giggle.

“Really?”

“Yeah. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought it was the president who was visiting. So I’ll suggest you make this worth her time and compliment her a lot.” Eric said with a wink.

“I’ll definitely do that.” Wumi said with a nod, “But why are there no photos of you both?” She asked as she looked at the framed photos of Kimberly which were hanging on the wall.

“We haven’t found the time for any of that yet. So how was your last trip?” Eric asked as he sat down on the couch and observed his sister who he hasn’t seen in some weeks.

“Well, it was fun. I even made some new friends over there. I even think I might get married to an Arab.” Wumi said making Eric scowl at her.

THE MIRACLE I NEED : Episode 61 – 70

But before he could say anything, the passage door opened, and Kimberly who was dressed in a sxy black playsuit joined them, “You’re here already. Welcome to my… Our home.” She corrected as she walked into the living room.

“Babe come sit with me.” Eric said, patting the empty space beside him, when it looked like she was going to sit on another couch.

“Sure. Of course.” Kimberly said with a smile as she walked over to where he was seated and joined him, while Wumi’s gaze was fixed on her.

“You look beautiful as always.” Wumi said with a bright smile.

“Thanks. You look really lovely yourself.” Kimberly said with a genuine smile.

“I never knew your husband here happens to be my brother’s closest friend. It’s quite a small world you know?” Wumi said with a smile before sipping from her bottle of coke.

“Yeah, indeed it is. Please excuse me for a moment.” Kimberly said as she stood up and headed outside to call the caterer.

“Where are you nau? My guest has arrived already and I told you I don’t want her to get here before you!” She asked immediately the caterer took the call, while trying not to yell angrily.

“I’m very sorry, I’m very close already, it’s just that there is hold up on the road. I’m by the toll gate.” The caterer said.

“Lere! Surulere! Mushin! Ojuelegba!” Kimberly heard different bus conductors call out to passengers.

“Jesus! Don’t tell me you’re still in the mainland?” Kimberly exclaimed but the caterer hung up immediately.

“Ah! Nigerians! Ah! What kind of wahala is this one?” Kimberly asked herself, close to tears. How was she supposed to explain to her guest that the lunch wasn’t forthcoming?

“Babe? Are you okay?” Eric asked as he stepped out to check on Kimberly.

“That stupid caterer is not anywhere near here. She has been lying since morning that she is on her way! What am I going to do? Mimi is here already, and I definitely can’t start making other plans for food now.” Kimberly asked, struggling not to cry. She really hated being disappointed like this.

“Calm down! Take a deep breath.” Eric said, placing a hand on her shoulder and forcing her to look into his face.

“How am I supposed to calm…” The rest of her words were lost when he covered her lips with his making her sigh against his lips.

“You really should stop distracting me that way.” Kimberly said with a frown when he pulled away.

“Let’s go out. I will just take you both somewhere and we can eat out.” Eric said making Kimberly scoff.

“See the way you’re sounding as though you have any money to pay for the food. You don’t even have money.” She reminded him making him chuckle.

“Doesn’t matter. Let’s go in, I’ll tell her myself so don’t worry.” Eric assured her, and dropped a kss on her forehead again as he led her into the house.

“Is everything okay?” Wumi asked when she noticed the forced smile on Kimberly’s face.

“Well, I asked her not to prepare anything and stay in bed with me all day since it’s still our honeymoon, thus she had to order lunch from online vendors, but unfortunately it’s not forthcoming. I’m sorry.” Eric said apologetically.

“Oh! It’s not a big deal, believe me. Disappointment is the second name of these online vendors. We can always do lunch some other time. I’m more interested in getting to know you, so it’s really not about the meal.” Wumi rushed to assure Kimberly who was no longer pretending to smile now.

“I’m sorry…”

“There is really nothing to apologise about. We could just go out and have lunch if it’s okay by you.” Wumi suggested making Eric give her a smile of gratitude.

“Sure. I’ll change into something more suitable and then we can be on our way.” Eric said before heading to the bedroom while Kimberly quickly hurried after him.
