EPISODE 5
Words failed me when Ude, one of the offenders to be exe¢uted said that he was guilty of the crime I was accused of.
Ude said to me boldly that he had a$sássinated more than twenty people and he wasn’t afraid of dying.
“I laboured for so many years training my girlfriend in school only for her to graduate and marry another man,” he said with a deafening tone.
“I ás$asinated Tony, her so-called husband, her father, mother and her two younger brothers” he added as though he was up in his arm.
“But why would you do all this?” I asked him.
“I used my school fees and salary to train my girlfriend in higher institution, her parents were suffering from penury” he replied.
“My mother succumbed immediately she heard that I wasn’t schooling – all that she had laboured for were all in Vain for her” he uttered.
“Few days after my mother’s departure, I heard that Olaedo my girlfriend had married. I couldn’t believe it until I saw their photos on Facebook – Indeed seeing is believing” he kept narrating.
“My heart bled like a pig as I was listening to his story. Though, I knew Olaedo did not tell Tony all these; why would he d íe for what he knew nothing about? truly, life is not worth living” I kept cogitating pensively as he was narrating.
Nine other malefactors were all chuckling as though what Ude was saying sounded amusing to them.
“You’re a dunce! why would you train a girl with your hard-earned money?” One of them who was muscular and brawny said and all of them burst into laughter –his name was Odenigbo.
Ude stopped narrating as though he was down in the mouth. I was curious to know all that transpired but unfortunately, Ude couldn’t tell all.
We were all quiet until Odenigbo opted to share why he was constrained with us. He took a deep breath with his countenance sad.
“Cynthia was a girl who lived next to me in a public yard. She was beautiful, tall and curvy –In fact, she was well endowed. When she packed in newly, she beseeched with me to show her the market, beer parlours and eateries in the village –which I did. We became friends and she became attracted to me but I kept pushing her off.
So one day, she called me on the phone to come to her room because she was very sick and needed to take drugs.
I went to her room wholeheartedly because I thought she was actually sick. Getting to her room, I knocked and she ordered me to come in, I came in and my eyes couldn’t believe what I saw.
I saw her wearing a sxy nightgown and she was healthy. I was stunned and tried to leave but she held me and said “Make Love to me Odenigbo please”.
Immediately, she pushed me to her b ed and lay on t op of me but I pushed her off.
Unfortunately, her nightgown tore “Ráppe! Rappe!” She started shouting with tears streaming down her face.
People around came and I was beaten to stupor before being handed over to the police.
I am a child born out of wedlock and no one spoke for me” Odenigbo said all these with his face grim; wry grim.
I was touched and I had butterflies in my stomach.
Instantly, a police officer came in and I told him that I was innocent of the accusation that Ude here was the one that a$sássinated Tony.
He looked at me with contempt and sighed scornfully.
“Sorry, it’s too late” he muttered.
I couldn’t stand the pace and forthwith, urine flowed down my thighs.
