Jeffery knew he needed to rest but he couldn’t, he couldn’t get himself to rest when he didn’t know if his baby was doing okay, everytime he thought about her, his heart broke.
The location they had earlier gone to, was an abadoned warehouse, and there was no trace of Mr. Okafor’s son or Jane there.
“Why hasn’t he fucking called back yet?” Jeffery got up from his chair and paced the living room staring at his phone.
“Amaka do you think we need to pray again? Perhaps God didn’t hear us the first time?” He was desperate and didn’t know what to do.
“I’m very sure God heard us the first time, he is not deaf” Anita was serving everyone in the room a mug of hot coffee, since none of them were willing to go to bed, she thought they could all use some caffeine.
“I just think we should pray again, probably remind God about our situation” Jeffery insisted.
“Okay, let us all pray” Anita placed the tray she was with on the center table, and this time Jeffery went on his knees and every other person including Black and his partner followed suit. Anita led them in a short prayer and continued to serve them afterwards.
“Anita I think you should go get some sleep, you have been serving us all day” Dele said.
“You should give yourself that advice, I’m not the one looking like he could use some caffeine”
Dele tried arguing but Anita shut him up with a raise of her hand. “Please don’t argue just drink up your coffee, God knows you all need the caffeine”
“Anita, I think Dele is right. You have been serving us all since. Please have a seat” Erica got up and took the tray from her and served the remaining people.
They were all quietly sipping on their coffee when Jeffery’s phone rang. They all kept quiet as Black’s partner connected it to his laptop, picked it and placed it on loud speaker.
“Hello?” Jeffery answered
“You should have gotten my money by now”
“Yes, I’m talking to my bank already and you should get your money by tomorrow morning”
“Good, remember no foul play. If you want to see her alive, you must not inform the police”
“Yes I totally understand, but please can I speak with her? Please?”
“Okay, you have just thirty seconds” Timothy placed the phone on Jane’s ear.
“Hello” came Jane’s weak voice.
“Baby how are you ? Are you hurt? Is..”
“Jeff calm down, I’m okay ”
“I promise to get you out of there very soon. I love you and…”
Timothy took the phone away from Jane’s ear. “Now you have spoken to her, if you don’t want this to be the last time you speak to her, I suggest you get to work and get my money ready by 9:am tomorrow. I will call you and tell you where to drop it” Timothy ended the call.
“Did you get anything?” Jeffery asked, immediately Timothy hung up.
“Yes I did” Black’s partner said “give me a minute”
They all held their breath, waiting patiently for him to tell them his findings.
“I was able to track his location, they are in Ikorodu”
“Good, now we have a location so let’s move” Jeffery was already on his feet as he spoke.
“Not so fast, we need to ask for more men, we can’t just go busting in on them without being fully equipped” Black said, as he got up to call his agency for more men to be sent.

An hour later, Black’s agency sent five more men to Michael’s house to go get Jane back.
“I’m coming with you guys” Jeffery got up and took his car keys.
“I’m sorry sir, but you would have to wait here, I promise you, we are going to get her back safely” Black tried persuading Jeffery to stay.
“You would have to tie me to a chair, because nothing is stopping me from coming with you”
“I’m coming with you too” Dele said.
“Me too” Michael got on his feet and placed a kiss on his wife’s forehead.
Black knowing clearly he couldn’t win a fight against them, decided to oblige them.
“Fine, but you will all wait outside, when we get there”
“Let’s get there first” Jeffery said.
They all set out and drove to Ikorudu. Jeffery and his two friends drove in one car, while Black and his men drove in two separate cars.
“Oh God please guide them safely” Erica prayed out loud after the men had already driven out.
“Are you girls thinking what I’m thinking?” Anita asked using her index finger to tap her chin.
“And what exactly are you thinking?” Amaka asked.
“These men need back up, no matter how stubborn they might think they are, I don’t think they can do this alone. We don’t know how many of the kidnappers are there. What if they are out numbered?”
“That’s a risk we can’t afford to take” Erica said thoughtfully.
“I think we should involve the police” Amaka said.
“You just took the words right out of my mouth” Anita concurred. “I have the number of this division’s police”
“Then call them immediately” Erica suggested.
Anita took out her phone and dialed the number of the police station.
“Hello, the police is your friend” came a man’s voice.
“Hello good evening officer, please we have a matter to report”
“What is it madam?”
“It’s about kidnapping, our fri…”
“Madam, I suggest you come over to the police station and report the matter”
“But you haven’t even heard what I have to say?”
“I believe you know where our station is?”
“Yes I do but..”
“Then come there” and with that said, the police officer ended the call.
“What did he say?” Amaka and Erica asked in unison.
“He said we should come and report at the police station”
“Let us go then” Erica picked up her car key, while Anita gave instructions to the nanny regarding her baby, and they all went to the police station.
When they got to the station, they were asked to make a statement.
“So madam what you are saying is that, your friend was kidnapped?” One of the police officer asked.
“Yes sir” the three women answered.
“How sure are you that, it was actually a kidnap? For all you know, she could have ran away with her lover”
“But officer I just told you what the kidnapper did to me before kidnapping her, can’t you see the bruises on my face?” Amaka showed the officer her face.
“Okay… so you were there when she was kidnapped?”
“Yes now, officer didn’t you read the report?”
“Ha that means you are under arrest o”
“For what?”
“For being an accomplice to your friend’s kidnap”
“Officer you can’t arrest her now, didn’t you hear all what she said? She was also beaten by the kidnapper. Isn’t the bruises on her face obvious?” Erica asked in anger as one of the officers tried taking Amaka into the cell.
“Madam, are you trying to teach me my job?” The first officer asked.
“Well, isn’t it obvious you don’t know how to do your job? We came here to report a case of kidnap, and instead of you to do something about it, you are arresting us” Anita was already fuming with anger as she spoke.
“Come you this girl, I suggest you watch your tone of voice if you don’t want to join her. Allow us to do our job. If you knew how to do it on your own, then why did you come to us?”
“See officer, she is only trying to explain things to you” Erica said.
“Please keep your explanation to yourself, we are going to investigate this matter and once we confirm she is innocent, she will be released”
“And how long is that supposed to take?” Erica asked.
“Well, weeks or months, it all depends on how long it takes until we are able to look fully well into the matter”
“You mean she is going to be here for weeks?” Anita angrily asked.
“You can bail her out if you want” the officer said nonchalantly.
“What? You must be joking”
“It’s okay Anita, officer how much do we need to bail her out?”
“Fifty thousand naira”
“You need fifty thousand naira to bail out someone you just took into the cell less than a minute ago?” Anita asked, this time she was looking into the face of the officer.
“Madam, do you want to beat me?”
“You are going to release her now, and we are not giving you a dime” Anita hit her hands on the officer’s desk as she spoke.
“You are under arrest madam” another officer said to Anita approaching her with cuffs.
“What for?”
“For speaking rudely, to an officer of the law”
“Don’t you dare touch me” Anita stepped back as she spoke. And as the officer tried to cuff her, she pushed him.
“You pushed an officer of the law? double offense” the officer forcefully took Anita’s hands and cuffed them.
“Get your hands off me!”
“Wait, what? You can’t just arrest her” Erica tried stopping the officer who took a screaming Anita into the cell to join Amaka.
“Officer you can’t do this, this is not right”
“We have already done it. And if you don’t want to be arrested alongside your sisters, I suggest you watch what you say”
“Watch what I say? You are the one arresting innocent people for no reason. And you are asking me to watch what I say”
“So you have declared someone to be innocent even before any form of investigation has been conducted?” The police officer asked.
“What of you that arrested someone without even confirming if they are guilty or not”
“Abdul” the first officer called. “Yes sir” Abdul answered.
“Take this woman into the cell with her sisters, she is beginning to talk too much”
Officer Abdul forcefully took Erica into the cell to join Amaka and Anita.
