Chapter 32
Jada’s POV
I haven’t been able to sleep since Jayden left even though I feel so exhausted. I just want to lay down and have a long sleep.
Wake up hours later rested and energized. That’s a dream that I don’t think will come true. I turn to look at the clock on my bedside to find it’s midnight. I better start packing.
I walk to my kitchen and pour myself a glass of my favorite red wine then walk back to my room and straight to the balcony that I never use.
The street is quiet and every house is dark apart from the random rooms with lights on.
I need to leave with Ryan as soon as possible but where do I want to go to? I’ve never thought about leaving LA after Ashton’s death.
That thought makes me gulp down the remaining wine in my glass. I was the perfect girlfriend. We planned our future together. I told him my plans and hopes.
My dreams. He was my everything. We told each other everything or so I thought. I should have guessed he cheated on me and had a baby on the way but that’s just the problem.
I trusted him with my life. I still love him. I should have let him go seven years ago but I just couldn’t.
I feel a presence behind me and somehow I already know who it is.
“What are you doing here?” I ask as he moves closer to me and presses his chest against my back.
“I couldn’t sleep.” He says and I look ahead.
“And you thought coming to my apartment would help you sleep?” I ask as he ksses my shoulder.
“Maybe. I told you I would see you soon. Here I am.” He says closer to my ear. He ksses the side of my neck that is bare after the braid he did on my hair earlier on.
“I talked to your cousin.” He says making me snap my eyes open. I hadn’t even realized I shut them.
“Julian?” I ask and he hums. “So what did you talk about?” I know he more than talked to him. The man ki lled his brother, sister in law and nephew.
Jayden stops his butterfly ki sses on my shoulder and I can feel his body still.
I turn around facing him making our chests touch but he doesn’t move. I place my palms to make him move slightly away and he does so by only a step.
“He… He said that he ki lled Jake and Lilly. Julia ordered for the death of Leo.” This really shocks me. She helped us find Leo only to ki ll him?
“Your dad is in the FBI?” Jayden asks looking into my eyes. I find myself nodding yes before shaking my head no.
“Was.” I answer. He looks at me like he already knew I would say that.
“Your dad exposed Julian’s parents to the FBI when he was tracking some mafia. He found out they were in collaboration.
He warned Julian’s mother who did the same to their dad so he decided to ki ll her before ki lling himself later on because of the guilt and love for her.” He says and I listen to everything.
“How do you know this?” Julian wouldn’t just tell Jayden everything voluntarily.
“I think it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I was angry before I saw him. That helped a lot.” He sighs looking down. But he left here before going to the base.
Or maybe went somewhere else first. I’m curious but I don’t ask. “I found out something that nearly destroyed me but I’ll make it right.” He says looking into my eyes.
“I’ll make sure of it.” He promises making me even more curious but I don’t question even though I really want to. That’s surprising but asking him will make it my problem and that will make me stay longer. I can’t do that.
He places his hand on my cheek, his eyes still looking into mine. I watch how blue his are. “I’d do anything to protect you Jada.” He whispers.
“But that’s the problem. I don’t need protection from anyone. I’m doing perfectly fine.” I whisper back.
“Not anymore. I want to be there for you.” My still heart starts beating so fast. What’s happening? What is Jayden trying to do. I start to panic and push him away. Literally.
“Go back to your apartment. When’s the last time you saw Sarah or even Linda? Go see your family. Go protect them and be there for them. I have Ryan.” I say this and he shakes his head.
“I saw mum two days ago. She’s fine.
She’s back with Mike.” He says and I remember Sarah’s conversation with Leah when I was watching them.
“She wants you to inherit her company.” I say.
“I know. We agreed I will in two years.” He says with a small smile before looking at me.
“What’s up with you and Ryan?” He asks after a few minutes.
“I don’t know. He just reminds me of someone but he’s grown on me. I love him.” I say and he nods deep in thoughts. I really do tell him a lot.
“When did you know him?” He asks and I look at him skeptically.
“When he was two almost three. Why?”
“Nothing. I just see how you talk about him and involve him in every decision you make. It’s nice seeing you that way. With love in your eyes.” He says making me turn and look at the city. I need another glass of wine.
“I should go to sleep.” I say turning and walking into my room. He follows me and sits on the bed as he removes his t-shirt.
“Yeah we should.”
“Your not sleeping here. Go back to your apartment.” I say looking at him incredulously. He smirks at me as he removes his black shorts before climbing onto the bed. I let out a breath and walk towards him. “This is my side of the bed.” I say making him raise his eyebrows.
“Mine too. But we could both share. How about you lay on me.” He suggests wiggling his eyebrows making him look funny and I burst out laughing.
When I’m done, I find Jayden looking at me with an emotion. “What?” I ask amused.
“You laugh yes but they’ve always been in mockery. This was the first time you laughed for real. It’s beautiful.” He breaths out.
“But you once mentioned that you hate cliché moments.” I say rolling my eyes and he smirks.
“Is it cliché when I say that I want to make you laugh all the time so that I can listen to you.” He says wiggling his eyebrows as he did last time and I laugh.
“You should stop doing that.” I say then look down at him. “Now, roll over or I’ll make you.” I say smirking at him and surprisingly, he does.
“You are human.” Jayden says as I make myself comfortable. He moves closer to me snaking his hands around my waist as he moves me closer to his bare chest.
I don’t say anything as I think about his statement.
I miss how my life used to be. With my parents, sisters, brother, a boyfriend, a job at the mall, and my passion for clothes designs. I had the perfect life. But it all went at once.
I feel Jayden place a kss on the crown of my head snapping me away from my thoughts. I’m walking in dangerous waters with him. But I want to feel normal for only one night.
Tomorrow, I’ll leave. Maybe I should leave with at least one good memory. Like a token for surviving in LA? I turn towards him and find him deep in thoughts.
I move closer to him and place a kiss on his lips which he responds immediately.
We kss until we’re out of breath before letting go. He looks at me his expression suddenly serious.
“Jada. Let’s elope together. With Ryan.”
