Chapter 47

Jada, it’s Sarah. I think we might need you here.” Sarah says.

“Why would you now need me after telling me to stay away from your family?” I ask with a scoff.

“Could you come to the hospital then we’ll talk about this. I had my reasons and believe me if I didn’t want my son to get better, I wouldn’t have called you.”

She answers making me wonder what is happening to Jayden.

“I’m in Seattle. I’m back at work and my son just got back to school. I can’t keep on disrupting my life because you can’t decide if you want me there or not.

I have a life Mrs Williams and I can’t just stop it because you want me to.” With that I hung up my phone though I can feel my hand shaking.

What happened to Jayden? I know Sarah has this large ego and wouldn’t call me if nothing happened.

Maybe I should call Mr Kings, his doctors can tell him what is happening.

With that in thought, I pick up my phone that I had placed on the desk and search for Sydney’s number but it goes to voicemail. I try Isabella’s too but the same happens.

“Fk!” I almost shout as I think of another way. What about Luke?

He’s Sydney’s right hand man. He should have the contacts.

I look at the phone in my hand that have held in a tight grip. I search for Luke’s number but I realize that I don’t have it and frustration starts hitting.

Should I call that Italian woman? But I don’t even have her contacts. Just then my phone vibrates with Isabella’s name on it.
“Mrs Kings…”

“Candice…” We say at the same time.
“Bella, I need to know what’s happening with Jayden.

Could you please inform me. I know a doctor wa…” I start explaining myself but she cuts me off.

“Candice… Candice. Breath in and out slowly. I’m going to call Dr Han right now and I’ll get back to you.”

She says. I mutter a small thanks then cut the call. I place the phone on my desk and I look at the designs I’ve been doing but I can’t seem to remember the details again.

My phone rings again but a new number appears. I receive and a crying woman greets me.

“Jada. Please. My brother is dying. He’s having these convulsions after calling your name.

You need to come. Please. My mum is desperate and so am I. I.. I can’t lose him too.” She says but I remain frozen with the information.

“Okay.” I say seconds later in a whisper. This is worse than I imagined.

Ryan has just gone back to school after two months then I’ll have to leave with him? Isn’t that too much for him?

I trust Shawn and Peter maybe they could stay with him for a couple of days. Two or three at most.

I start placing the designs in a file and take it together with my bag then walk to Peter’s office. I find him sketching something and Shawn sitting across from him reading a cookbook.

“Hi guys.” I call out making both of them turn to me. Their faces immediately turn to worry.
“Is it time?” Shawn asks dramatically and I shake my head no with a sad smile.

“Could you please stay with Ryan for a few days. I’m needed in LA right now.” I explain and Shawn stands and walks to me.

They tell me that it’s okay. They offer to book my flight and send everything to me as I drive to Ryan’s school. I give them the house keys and leave.

Mummy.” Ryan runs to me when he sees me then hugs me. “Why are you here. You look sad.” He says making me let out a smile. He really is my son.

“Jayden is so sick baby. I have to go see him.” I explain and he looks up at me with worry.

“You’ll stay with Peter and Shawn for a few days and we’ll talk every time you want us to. Okay?” I ask and he looks at me sadly.

“Can I go with you? I want to see Jayden too.” He asks making me let out a sigh but I shake my head no sadly.

“No baby. You need to stay here and promise to be good boy for me. I’ll be back before you know it.”

“You promised that we’ll never be apart. But I understand. I really like Jayden and I want him to get well.

Buy him flowers for me. He hates them.” He says his eyes glittering with mischief and I let out a chuckle.

I hug him and tell him that Shawn will come pick him in an hour after I leave.

Peter tells me that everything is ready and so everything goes smoothly. I find the flight already boarding and three hours later I’m in LAX.

The trip to the hospital by cab is longer and the driver is an older man who follows the traffic rules.

I arrive at the hospital thirty minutes later instead of twenty and go straight to the elevator assuming that Jayden is in the same room as before.

I find Linda’s husband sitting there looking at his phone but no Linda or Sarah to be seen.
I don’t even greet him but walk to the door and take a deep breath before opening it.

I shut it slowly, my eyes never leaving Jayden. I walk to him until I’m on the side.

“Jayden.” I call hoping that he’ll wake up but nothing. His once bandaged head is now free and his hair is shorter than it was. Seems like they shaved him before the operation.

I take his cold hand into mine. “Jayden. I’m here. Jada is here.”

I try again but nothing. He doesn’t respond. “I’m here with our baby. Please wake up.”

I say almost desperately. Why isn’t he waking up? I look at the heart rate monitor but no changes. Can he even hear me?

“Keep on calling him. He might remember your voice.”

I turn towards the male doctor standing by the door with Sarah and a teary Linda.

I give him a curt nod and turn back to Jayden. My feet are klling me.

“Do you need to sit?” The doctor asks and I assume he’s seen my unease. I turn to him and nod noticing Sarah giving me a surprised expression looking at my stomach but doesn’t say anything.

Dr Han gets in and moves the chair closer to me and I sit still holding Jayden’s hand.

“Jayden. It’s me. It’s Jada.” Say in a whisper. I hear the door shut but I don’t turn. “You really need to wake up and take up your responsibility.

After all, you knocked me up on my birthday.” I say with a slight smile as I remember the day I told him about Ashton in the hotel room when he told me about Ryan being my son.

It’s funny how you came to my life and stuck to me like a leech.

Who would have know the basketball star Jayden Williams was so clingy?”

I ask rhetorically laughing at my own joke. “I never let anyone close to me after my family died. But you, you arrogant man just had to force yourself in and now you’re giving me this scare?” I ask as a tear falls.

“Jada.” Jayden starts groaning and I stand. “Jada.” He calls and I respond but he keeps on calling me.

I can see beads of sweat form on his forehead and the machine starts beeping erratically.

“We need to stabilize him. You need to get out ma’am.” Dr Han says getting in with two nurses and I move aside but not out.

“You need to leave.” A nurse says but I shake my head no.

“I’m Jada. He needs me.” I say my voice cold but the nurse starts saying something but I walk past her. I walk to Jayden and hold his shaking hand.

“Jayden. I’m here.” I shout frustrated but the nurse pushes me away. “Don’t leave. I love you.” I shout as tears roll from my eyes but the nurse still pushes me away.

She shuts the door on my face but I continue standing there. Crying.
