“What was the question again?”
“Fuck the question and just claim my lips, Marcus”
Marcus smiled, his eyes sparkling with desire, and leaned in to claim Katharina’s lips again. But just as their lips were about to touch, Jenkins appeared beside them.
“Excuse me, boss, there’s a problem” he said and Marcus glared at him, his lips inches from Katharina’s.
“What is it?”
“The guy who shot you, boss… he’s dead”
“What do you mean?”
“The police found him dead in his cell, Looks like someone took care of him before he could talk” he said Marcus’s face hardened, his jaw clenched in anger.
“Fuck! I want to know who’s behind this,who wants me dead so badly? Let’s head to the station”he said and Jenkins nodded.
“Can I come along?” Katharina asked gently.
“No, I don’t want you involved”
“But I am involved. I was present at the charity gala where the incident happened”
“Still…”
“I won’t let you shut me out, Marcus, I’m already in this, and I want to see it through”he said and Marcus’s expression softened slightly.
“Fine, but stay close to me, and don’t intervene. I don’t want you in harm’s way” he said and Katharina nodded.
They got back to the ballroom with their masks back on and Bianca immediately rushed to Katharina immediately she sighted her
“There you are! Was about coming to look for you? Mrs Gray will kill me if you get lost” she said and Katharina chuckled.
“And who’s that hot guy over there” Bianca nudged her shoulder, her eyes on masked Marcus who was talking to Jenkins.
“Why are you interested to know?”
“Because he’s hot girl,his physique reminds me of someone” she sipped her wine before dropping it.
“Umm… I will be leaving here very soon”
“Why? We just arrived here and besides we are going home together, because I have to drop you home with my car”
“I know but…”
“Oh wait,you wanna have one night stand with the hot guy?” Bianca exclaimed dramatically.
“Hell no!”
“Oh c’mon! You are embarrassed to tell me right? Don’t worry enjoy yourself, I need to find a hot guy for my self too,it’s been long I got laid” she winked at Katharina before walking away.
“Make sure you use protection” she shouted back and everyone attention turned to them, Katharina felt embarrassed immediately.
“What? Why’s everyone acting like a saint? I’m gonna say it again! If you know you’re gonna f*** yourself tonight, use condoms, guys, except you want babies knocking on your doorstep!” Bianca added, and everyone chuckled.
Katharina walked over to Marcus and Jenkins still embarrassed.
“She’s crazy” Marcus said looking at her as she flirt with a guy at a corner.
“Never knew she’s this crazy”
“Isn’t she the lady who won the bid at the charity gala?” He asked
“She’s the one boss” Jenkins replied.
“So she told you to use protection tonight, planning to f*ck some random guys?” Marcus teased her and she covered her face in shame.
“Oh c’mon,just joking. Now let’s get out of here and where the hell is Williams?” Marcus asked looking around.
“Sorry I forgot to tell you buy Mr Williams left some minutes ago,he had to go sort out something”
“Fine, let’s go” he said and they left the ballroom finally.

AT THE STATION*
They arrived at the station and detective Ava approached them, immediately.
“Mr Marcus, thanks for coming in. I’m sure you’re aware of the situation”
“I know he’s dead, What I want to know is what really happened. How did he end up dead in his cell without anyone noticing?”
“That’s what we’re investigating. It appears he was killed in a way that suggests someone with significant resources and connections was involved. And what’s even more disturbing is that he was killed with a silencer gun. No one heard a thing” Detective Ava said and Katharina’s eyes widened in shock.
“A silencer gun? That’s…that’s impossible. How did someone even get that into the prison?”Katharina asked.
“We are still investigating. And what’s even more concerning is that the security footage shows no one entering or leaving his cell around the time of death”
“This is serious than I thought, How’s that even possible?”
“I know it’s hard to believe, but we’ll get to the bottom of this. I promise you sir, we won’t rest until we uncover the truth. I know you want answers, but I need you to trust me right now. My team and I will work tirelessly to uncover the truth. But I need you to go home, to stay safe, and let us handle this” she said and Katharina nodded in agreement, Marcus hesitated, then nodded.
“Okay. But keep me updated, Detective. I need to know what’s going on”
“I will, Mr Marcus. I promise. Now please go home, and let us work on this. We’ll get to the root of this matter, I promise you that”
They left the station and they headed outside to the car.
“Hey, it’s going to be okay, Detective Ava will get to the bottom of this. You just need to stay safe and let her do her job”Katharina said grabbing his arm
“You’re right. I just can’t shake the feeling that I’m in danger”
Katharina’s grip on his arm tightened.
“We will face whatever comes your way together, Marcus. We’re in this together, always”
“Now you are acting like a wife” he said and Katharina blushed.
Jenkins cleared his throat.
“Sir, shall I take you home now?”
“Yes, Jenkins. Let’s get home but first, we need to get Katharina home” he said and Jenkins entered the car and the two followed suit before he drove off.

MRS GRAY’S HOUSE*
Katharina entered inside after Marcus drove her home.
“You are back early” Mrs Gray said.
“Yeah…I had leave”
“Katharina,you are back!” Shouted Emily as she came out of the room,she hasn’t taken up to 2 steps when she fell from the stairs,her head making a bang as it landed on the floor.
“Emily!!!” They screamed out in horror.

MARCUS’ MANSION*
Marcus finally got home after dropping Katharina off at her house. He couldn’t stop blushing like a teenager as he remembered the kiss he had with Katharina at the masquerade ball, he’s still fresh in his brain.
“Daddy!”
He turned around to see Hazel , running down the stairs towards him with tears in her eyes.
“Daddy, I had a bad dream!” she exclaimed, her small voice trembling.
Marcus quickly knelt down to hug his daughter.
“What happened in your dream, sweetie?” he asked, trying to hide his own worries.
“You were gone, Daddy, I couldn’t find you anywhere, and I was all alone” Hazel said,her eyes welling up with tears.
“I’m here now, sweetie, I’m not going anywhere. I promise” He said, hugging her tight.
Hazel clung to her father, her small arms wrapped tightly around his neck.
“Promise me you’ll always come back to me, Daddy” she whispered.
Marcus’s eyes pricked with tears as he held his daughter close.
“I promise, Hazel. I’ll always come back to you. No matter what happens, I’ll always be here for you”
As he held his daughter in his arms, Marcus knew that he would do anything to keep her safe. He would face whatever dangers lay ahead, knowing that Hazel was counting on him to be her rock, her protector, and her hero.
Natalie came to the living room room and Hazel’s expression changed from sadness to a forced smile.
“Hey, sweetie. What’s wrong? You’ve been crying” Natalie walked over to her looking concerned.
“I was just feeling a little emotional, that’s all” she shrugged.
“Well, I’m here for you, sweetie. We’re going to be a family soon, and I want us to be happy together”
Hazel’s smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered.
“Yeah, that sounds great, Natalie”
Marcus watched with a puzzled expression on his face. He couldn’t understand why Hazel was being so nice to Natalie, when she had made it clear she didn’t like her and did she just said it will be great that they will be a family soon?
“I think you have something to say to your dad, Hazel” she said, looking at Hazel intensely.
Hazel’s eyes darted to her father, then back to Natalie, looking tensed and unease.
“Um… dad, I think I will love for Natalie to be your wife. She proved that to me today, and she will be a good mother to me too” Hazel said gently.
The words sounded rehearsed, forced, and Marcus’s unease grew. He couldn’t understand why Hazel would say such a thing, when she had made it clear she didn’t like Natalie.
“See, Marcus? Even Hazel wants us to be together. We’re a family, meant to be”Natalie said triumphantly and she smiled slyly.
Marcus’s gut told him something was wrong, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was. He looked at Hazel, searching for answers, but her eyes avoided his and that moment he knew something was up.
