The Director-General, Office of the Education Quality Assurance, Lagos State, Mrs Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, has said the newly unveiled online community learning intervention platform, ‘Lagos Learns Together,’ will revolutionise learning in the state.

Seriki-Ayeni made this known on Thursday during the unveiling of LLT at the Lagos SUBEB Multipurpose Hall, Lagos.

According to her, the educational material is for the students from primary school to SSS 3 and are both digital and physical so that technology will not be a barrier to accessing education.

“It was borne out of the need for a centralised educational and information access targeted at pre-class to SSS 3 students, teachers, school leaders and parents. The different resource on the website is to support both public and private schools especially for students with access to devices. The resources are also free-of-charge and designed to meet the needs of Nigerian students, educators, and families. Since we have a responsibility to our community, the LLT will further help to bridge learning gaps for students below tertiary level as the world strives with a spike in COVID-19 pandemic.”

“In addition, the OEQA will provide learning packs to students who have no access to technology. The learning packs include important information about the safety of a child especially as COVID-19 has spiked again, such as sexual abuse, kidnapping, fire incidence and phone number(s) or code(s) to call in any situation. Included in the learning pack is the ‘COVID-19 Education Handbook for Children’ by the United Nation and the European Union in conjunction with the Lagos State Government.”

The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, who unveiled the books said it was an interesting project and the contents were relevant for students.

“I wish we have more money to make more copies. I don’t believe any child would read this book and not just love reading,” she said.

The Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly committee on education, Mr Okanlawon Sanni, said, “This academic material will help broaden our children’s knowledge. We call on the public to support and be a part of this project because it will be impactful to children.”

The Executive Chairman, LASUBEB, Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, lauded the effort of OEQA, saying, “It is blended learning and it takes a whole village to educate a child. I equally want to express our heartfelt gratitude to OEQA, I appreciate what you have done for us.”
