Episode 31

Rissa’s pov:
Mykel and I sat together on a table, working on the biology project. There’s so much to do and from the way I see it, we won’t be done soon.
The last person I needed help from, was Mykel. But I have no choice but to accept.
I handed him the tools he needed while he worked on the main object. There was also a textbook next to me.
“Give me another straw” He said and I looked into the box.
“There’s none left” I informed and he shrugged his shoulders.
After a minute of silence, he removed the lace from his sneakers and used it tie up what he wanted.
I squatted and removed my own lace and handed it to him.
“No….it’s alright” He retorted refusing to accept the lace.
I sighed and dropped it on the floor..
“So, your dad’s coming home tomorrow?” He asked not sparing me a glance.
“Yes, you know that already” I replied taking up the textbook to see if there was something we were missing.
He kept mute for a while.
There was silence as time expired. It’s awkward and I wish he’d say something though.
“So, how did your parents die?” I asked but then, regretted it the moment it slipped from my lips.
What was I thinking???…
“I really don’t know. But, mom met into an accident that same night” He replied leaning over.
“Oh…” I mumbled not knowing what to say. What do people say when being told of such a bad mishap??
“We are done!” Mykel announced after some minutes.
His shirt flared a bit and I was able to see the tattoo drawn on his skin. I still wasn’t able to interpret the whole drawing.
I’d just wait till his shirt gets ripped off completely.
“Thanks again” I said lifting it from the table. We were at the garden which is quite a little distance from the main house.
“Should I help you carry that?” He asked getting up.
“No…I’m good” I replied as my eyes quickly caught a glimpse of Selena standing at the entrance of the building.
My mouth had opened to inform Mykel about his girlfriend who’s waiting at the door but some part of me withheld the information.
I’d prefer Mykel to walk me back to the building than going alone.
He closed the heavy textbook and held it in his hands and we began strolling slowly to the building.
“So, what do you think you’re gonna get for that?” He asked breezily.
I glanced at the completed project.
“A big F” I replied hoarsely.
He chuckled and shook his head.
“The work’s not that bad. I think its better than what you could have done if your crazy friends helped you” He cooed.
Yeah!…he’s definitely right about that.
I looked towards the door again and spotted Selena already walking up to us.
God! I kinda hate her…
For the fact that she’s dating someone younger than she is and also, he’s from prison.
She didn’t even wait to study him and she’s already in his arms like some piece of worthless metal.
“I hope you know, you can get a girl pregnant, right?” I asked irritably.
“Really? I can??” He asked sounding muzzled.
“Yes, you can!” I shot out glaring at the wtch that has almost gotten to where we were.
“I’m not convinced, Rissa. How about, you let me get you pregnant, first. Then, I’ll believe you” He chipped.
“You j.erk!” I yelled surprised with his statement.
“Hey, Mykel” Selena called catching up.
She held Mykel’s hand and smiled at him.
“It’s time for you to take your drugs, hmm?” She said softly and I noticed she squeezed his hand.
Pathetic!
“Seriously?? When is the medication going to end?” Mykel asked wryly.
“Today. This is going to be the last one—”
“And after that, you’ll stop coming here?” I interpolated and she laughed.
“Of course I’ll be coming from time to time to make sure he’s far from danger” She replied grinning.
I rolled my eyes and walked ahead of them.
Selena’s pov:
I couldn’t help it as I looked directly into his face. He’s so angelic and most times, his smile makes me weak at the knees.
I wish we were actually dating. If I’m to be honest with myself, I’m quite sure he’s the guy I want. Everything about him makes me want him more and more.
At last, I summoned up courage again and tried to kss him.
He looked away and it felt like I’ve just been ran over by a bus!
“Let’s not do that. She might drop her project” He whispered referring to Rissa who was walking fast to get back to the house.
I gulped and nodded slowly.
“I’m sorry, again. I’m just terrible at controlling my feelings” I said, mortified.
He smiled.
“I understand”.

This might practically be the last time I’d see him.
I can only come over again if I get a leave at the hospital. They’d soon send me to someone else’s home to give private services so I won’t be free often.
It hurts to like someone who can’t return the love no matter how much the person tries.
But I promise myself that before I go, I’ll give him a long kiss.
We arrived at his bedroom where my bag was. He sat on a chair and I reached in for the drugs.
“Selena” He called and I stopped what I was doing.
He pulled my hand and I went close to him.
“I can’t like you back the way you want, but I’m gonna give you this” He said gently and stood up.
He brought his face close and I kssed him. I wrapped my hands around his neck and deepened it.
I could feel butterflies in my tummy and it gave me funny feelings I’ll never forget.
He unlocked from the kss afterwards and exhaled sharply.
He sat back on the chair with his face fixed to the ground like he was recalling a memory.
I enjoyed the warmth of the kiss for a while before going back to the bag to get the drugs.
