A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 111 – 120
I leaned back, folding my arms as I regarded her. “I’ve upheld my end of the deal,” I said, allowing the finality of my tone to settle over her. “You’re here, under my protection. What more could you possibly want?”
She was silent, staring blankly at the floor, the weight of her decision finally sinking in. There was no escape, no undoing what had been set in motion.
I stood up moving closer to her, Selene slowly lifted her head to meet my gaze. In her eyes, I saw hatred—raw, unfiltered loathing that she barely bothered to hide.
It burned there, a silent storm that would have brought most men to their knees. But I didn’t flinch.
I knew that, deep down, she wanted nothing more than to tear me apart, to end the suffering she thought I’d inflicted on her.
But hatred and passion often went hand in hand, and as I reached out, brushing a stray lock of her hair away from her face, I saw her eyes soften, if only for a moment.
Her resolve melted, her breath hitching ever so slightly under my touch. She might hate me, but I had power over her—far more than she could admit.
“You aren’t lying, right?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she looked up at me, desperately seeking reassurance. “Liam is… alive?”
I smirked, watching her eyes as I let my words fall, each one a blade. “Depends on how you wish to view it, darling,” I replied, my hand moving slowly to her neck, fingertips grazing her skin softly. “You’re now mine, Selene. Fully mine.”
She narrowed her eyes, clearly still bristling with distrust and betrayal. “Why did you do this?” Her voice trembled, caught somewhere between anger and despair. “You took me from my happiness.”
I leaned in, letting the moment hang, before replying, “Do you love Liam?” My tone was cold, demanding an answer. Her eyes widened slightly, and I watched as her emotions warred within her, the conflict evident in her expression.
“Why?” she snapped back, her voice rising as anger crept in. “So that you can kill him again? So you can make me go through all that pain all over?” Her hand shot out, slapping mine away from her face as if my touch burned her. “I might be yours, but you have no right to touch me! I only gave you my soul, not my body!”
“Selene,” I warned, feeling the slightest flicker of annoyance creep into my otherwise calm demeanor.
She took a step back, eyes blazing with defiance. “The day you want me dead—the day you want my soul—take it. I’d rather be dead and in hell than be alive with someone like you!” She turned as if to leave, but I grabbed her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.
“You don’t get to just…” I began, but before I could finish, she wrenched her hand free and swung her palm against my face with a force that left a stinging warmth across my cheek.
For a moment, I stood there, silent, shocked. That slap… it wasn’t just defiance—it was hatred, pure and intense.
“Don’t you dare touch me!” she hissed, voice dripping with venom. And with that, she turned and stormed up the stairs, leaving me standing there, her anger still echoing in the air.
As the footsteps receded, I felt a strange sensation wash over me. Anger? No. It wasn’t anger. I found myself smiling—a genuine, amused smile.
This woman… she had done something no mortal had ever dared to do. She’d slapped the devil himself, and in doing so, she’d awakened something in me, a thrill I hadn’t felt in ages.
But before I could fully process the strange feeling, a low, familiar laugh echoed from behind me. I turned to find Gabriel leaning against the wall, a look of barely-contained amusement dancing in his eyes.
“oh brother, Seems you’ve found yourself quite the spitfire,” he said, barely holding back his laughter. “And here I thought nothing in this world could touch you.”
I narrowed my eyes at him, the smile slipping from my face. “gabriel” I warned, voice laced with irritation. “Don’t you have something else to do?”
He shrugged, stepping further into the room as though he belonged there. “What, and miss this? Watching the mighty Lucifer humbled by a mortal woman is a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.” He chuckled, crossing his arms. “So, what’s it like?”
“What’s what like?” I asked, coldly.
“Losing your control. Seeing someone get under your skin.” He raised an eyebrow, clearly relishing this moment. “Admit it—you’re letting her get to you, aren’t you?”
“She’s a mortal,” I replied sharply. “A tool. A means to an end. Nothing more.”
“Then why don’t you let her go?” He tilted his head, eyes glinting with intrigue. “If she’s just a tool, why keep her around when she defies you at every turn? You’ve already won, haven’t you? You have her soul.”
My jaw tightened, and I took a step toward him. “Because she has yet to understand what it means to truly be mine. She’ll learn.”
Gabriel grin didn’t falter. “Ah, so this is about teaching her a lesson.” He paused, savoring the moment. “Or maybe, just maybe, it’s about something more.”
” Why are you here?” I cut him short ” don’t you have errands for your father ”
” Matter of fact, I do ” he frown ” you’re needed in hell, the demons have gone berserk ” I wanted replying but the smell of Selene blood caught my nose.
What is she doing?
