A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 131 – 140
Lucifer’s mouth curved into a smirk, though it held no humor. “You think you know what I intend, Lucien? Or do you believe you’re more attuned to her needs than I am?”
I swallowed, feeling the familiar pang of frustration rise up. “It’s not about what I know. It’s about what she deserves to know. If you… care for her, truly, then why keep her in the dark about everything?”
He leaned against the wall, crossing his arms. “You forget yourself, Lucien. Her knowledge is mine to grant or deny. She is mine. I owe her nothing beyond what I choose to give.”
The casual dismissal in his tone only made my resolve harden. “And what of the others?” I pressed. “The demons who left Hell? They don’t follow your rule anymore. You can’t guarantee her safety, not while they’re out there.”
His eyes flickered, a brief flash of something unreadable crossing his face before he masked it. “The ones who left made their choice,” he said slowly. “They rejected my rule, and now they roam unchecked, foolishly believing they can end me.”
“But they could harm her,” I insisted. “She’s vulnerable, especially with your… attachment to her. They might see her as a way to hurt you, to undermine your authority.”
His gaze sharpened, like a blade glinting in the dark. “Do you doubt my ability to protect her, Lucien? Or are you questioning why I’ve chosen to keep her close at all?”
I hesitated, feeling the familiar weight of my unspoken thoughts press down on me. “It’s not that I doubt you,” I finally said, each word careful, deliberate. “But she’s human. She’s fragile. And if the rumors are true—if the demons who left are planning something—then isn’t it only a matter of time before they try to use her against you?”
He tilted his head, watching me with a shrewd intensity that made my skin prickle. “The demons who left are nothing more than a nuisance, scattered and leaderless. They pose no threat to me… or to her.”
I clenched my jaw, feeling the frustration bubbling beneath the surface. “But you can’t control them all. Not forever. And if you’re not careful…”
Lucifer’s eyes flashed with something cold, a warning. “Are you suggesting that I abandon her? That I relinquish her to a life without my protection?”
My fists clenched at my sides, but I forced myself to stay calm. “I’m suggesting that if you truly care about her, you consider what’s best for her. She needs to be around someone other than you”
He laughed softly, the sound dark and humorless. “You speak as if you understand what’s best for her, Lucien. If am to guess, you are suggesting she stays with you?”
” Yes” I look at him, with all the courage I have.
“And what if she doesn’t want that? What if, she sees you as nothing”A dangerous silence fell between us, stretching until it felt like the walls themselves were closing in. Finally, Lucifer straightened, his expression icy, unreadable.
“She won’t go with you Lucien” he said, his voice a low, steady rumble. “bit you’re welcome to try.”
“And the demons?” I asked, steering the conversation back to safer ground. “Do you intend to bring them back under control, or will you let them continue to disrupt things?”
He regarded me thoughtfully, his fingers tapping idly against his arm. “They will return to me eventually. Either willingly… or by force.”
I nodded, though the answer did little to quell my unease. “And if they don’t?”
His smirk returned, cold and calculating. “Then I’ll deal with them… one by one, if necessary. They may believe they’ve escaped my rule, but they’re mistaken. No one defies me and lives without consequence.”
The resolve in his voice was unmistakable, it seem he was talking to me, he must know how I feel about Selene.
As I turned to leave, he spoke again, his voice softer, almost contemplative. “I understand your concern, Lucien. But you shouldn’t have set eyes on Selene…. Wrong move”
I paused, glancing back at him, he kept smiling, no sign of killing me in his eyes, that’s a relief.
“Perhaps,” I said quietly, the weight of my unspoken fears pressing heavily on my chest. “But I hope, for her sake, you think about what I said.”
With one final glance, I left the room, the echoes of our conversation lingering long after the door closed behind me.
