A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 221 – 230
A smile tugged at my lips despite the throbbing in my head. “A rescue mission? You’d just swoop in and carry me off, wouldn’t you?”
“Absolutely,” he replied, leaning closer, his gaze intense. “I’d even wear a cape if it meant saving you from the clutches of this dreaded sleep.”he kiss my neck.
I couldn’t help but laugh, the sound lightening the weight on my chest. “A cape? Now that’s a sight I’d pay to see.”
“Trust me, it would be magnificent,” he said, puffing out his chest dramatically. “The devil himself, flying through the air with a cape fluttering behind. Quite the spectacle.”
I chuckled, feeling the warmth of his presence wrap around me like a comforting blanket. “And what would your catchphrase be? ‘Fear not, for I am here to save the day’?”
“Something like that!” he exclaimed, his voice taking on a mock-heroic tone. “Perhaps, ‘No need to fret, dear Selene, for I am here to bring you food and laughter!’”
“Food and laughter? I think I could get used to that,” I said, my heart swelling with affection. “What have you brought me?”
“Ah, the pièce de résistance,” he said, gesturing grandly to the tray. “We have a delightful assortment: fresh fruit, warm bread, and—” he leaned in closer, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper, “the most divine honey butter you’ve ever tasted.”
My stomach growled at the mention of food, and I couldn’t suppress a grin. “You really know how to pamper a girl.”
“Only the best for the mother of my child,” he replied, his expression softening. ” you need to eat. I wouldn’t want you to faint from hunger.”
I nodded, sitting up a little straighter. “Okay, okay, I’ll eat. But only if you promise to stay and keep me company.”
“Deal,” he said, settling onto the edge of the bed, his presence grounding me.
I reached for a piece of fruit, savoring the sweetness as I took a bite. “This is amazing,” I said, my eyes widening in delight. “You really went all out.”
“I aim to please,” he said, watching me with an amused expression. “And you know, nothing lifts a person’s spirits quite like food. Especially when you’re recovering from a dramatic night.”
“Dramatic?” I echoed, raising an eyebrow. “Is that what we’re calling it?”
“Absolutely. ‘Dramatic’ is the perfect word for it. But let’s focus on the brighter side—like how much better you feel now that you’re awake.”
I felt warmth blossom in my chest at his words. “You make it sound so easy.”
“Life is easier when you have someone to share it with,” he said, his tone sincere. “And I’m here for all of it, Selene. The good, the bad, and the ridiculously cheesy.”
I laughed again, feeling lighter. “Well, I do appreciate the cheesy parts. They help distract me from the headache.”
“Consider me your personal jester,” he said, grinning. “At your service.”
As I took another bite of the bread, I couldn’t help but notice how his eyes sparkled with warmth and affection. “You really care, don’t you?”
“Of course I do,” he replied, his voice steady. “You mean a lot to me, more than I can put into words.”
I paused, feeling a swell of emotion. “Lucifer…”
