A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 51 – 60

LUCIFER ANGER 3

LUCIFER GASP.

“Do you think she’ll like the gift?” Lucien asked, his grin wide as he glanced at me in the rearview mirror.

I leaned back in my seat, watching the streets pass by, my thoughts lingering on Selene. “She hates them,” I said, my voice quiet but steady. “But I’m sure she’ll want them back”

Lucien let out a low chuckle, satisfied by my answer. “Killing them brought delight to my face,” he admitted with no shame, his eyes gleaming with a flicker of wicked satisfaction.

I couldn’t help but smirk. “I thought you were going soft on humans, Lucifer,” he added, still driving but glancing back at me every so often. “This was a relief.”

I closed my eyes for a moment, letting his words settle. “Soft?” I muttered. “Perhaps with some… but never forget what I am, Lucien.” My tone remained composed, even as the memories of the past flickered through my mind. Humans always tested the limits of their bargains, always thought they could outsmart me. But they never learned.

“What I dislike most,” I continued, my voice hardening, “are humans who don’t keep their end of the bargain. Selene’s parents knew what they owed me, and yet they tried to evade the consequences. Typical, really. Their arrogance cost them dearly.”

Lucien nodded, knowing better than to argue with me. He had seen firsthand the price of human betrayal.

I opened my eyes and looked out the window as the cityscape rolled by, indifferent to the people moving through their lives like ants on the ground. They had no idea how quickly everything could be taken from them.

“She should have returned to the mansion on her own,” I muttered. There was a slight twinge of frustration in my voice that I hadn’t intended. Selene was stubborn, and that could either be her greatest strength or her downfall.

The fact that she had hesitated, thinking she could resist me, even using a stun gun… I almost admired her audacity. But her defiance had limits. She would learn that soon enough.

Lucien glanced at me, curious. “And what if she doesn’t come willingly tomorrow?”

I met his gaze in the mirror, my smile darkening. “She will.”

Lucien grinned again, satisfied with my answer. “I’ll be looking forward to it.” Seconds passed before he speak again ” you know, if you did not forbid me from using my powers on Selene, that stun gun wouldn’t have caused me so much pain”

” Probably” I relief, ignoring him completely

” So can I use my powers now?”

” Indeed, you did well killing her family, you can use them for a week ” Lucien smile widely and I shake my head before it hit me ” did you get the ice cream ”

” Yes, it’s in the freezer at home ”

” Good ”

I leaned back in my seat, my thoughts returning to Selene. She had intrigued me from the start— she carried herself with an unusual resolve. Still, there were things she couldn’t escape, and the sooner she realized that, the easier it would be for her.

There was a strange satisfaction in watching her grapple with her decisions. Knowing that every step she took brought her deeper into the world she didn’t yet understand. A world where bargains were binding, and there was no room for error.

I tapped my fingers lightly on the leather seat, my thoughts wandering back to the look in her eyes when I mentioned Liam. Her pulse had quickened, her breath hitched ever so slightly. She claimed he was family, but I could see there was more to it. Not that it mattered. Liam was irrelevant.

What mattered was Selene, and she was mine.

“Lucifer,” Lucien’s voice cut through my thoughts, pulling me back to the present. “What will you do if she keeps resisting?”

I smiled, amused by his concern. “She won’t resist forever.”

“But you’re not just going to… take her, are you?” Lucien asked, his curiosity piqued.

“No,” I replied calmly. “Selene’s different. I want her to come willingly. To understand what she’s stepping into.”

Lucien nodded thoughtfully, but I could see the flicker of doubt in his eyes. He didn’t fully understand my methods, but that was fine. He didn’t need to.

As the city lights blurred past, my thoughts returned to tomorrow. I would give Selene a chance to choose her path, but I already knew how this would end. She would come to the mansion again, and when she did, she would begin to understand the depths of the world she was stepping into.

Lucien pulled the car up, into the gates of the mansion, and I stepped out, breathing in the cool night air.

“Rest up,” I said, turning back to Lucien. “Tomorrow will be… eventful.”

Lucien grinned, giving me a nod as I walked toward the entrance.
