The resucer hall’s silence enveloped them as they emerged, the rescuer’s face finally coming into view, revealing someone Cookie didn’t expect.

Standing before her was Collins, dripping wet from the pool. His hair, slicked to the side by the water, clung to his face, and his clothes hugged his body, accentuating every line.

fûçk!!

Cookie’s mind raced as she took in the sight before her.

How had she ever thought Lucius was the better-looking one? Seeing Collins like this, she realized she must have been out of her damn mind.

Wet and disheveled, he looked like a demigod. Now she understood why women always flocked to him.

Collins crouched down beside her, concern etched on his face.

“You okay?” he asked, gently lifting her head onto his lap.

Cookie pushed herself up, flashing him a smile.

It was rare for her to smile like this. he knew that much. She was usually so guarded, even around her friend, Blue. But lately, she found herself smiling more often in his presence.

“I’m fine,” she replied, trying to steady herself as she stood.

“How did you find me?” She asked, her eyes locking onto his.

Collins shrugged, his gaze never leaving hers.

“I went to your place first. Your new friends wouldn’t tell me anything, so I called Richard. He checked with your friend Blue and she mentioned you might be here.”

Cookie said nothing, her eyes drifting to his lips.

She watched the way they moved as he spok, how full and pink they were, how soft they had felt the last time they kissed.

She shook her head, trying to clear the fog that had settled over her thoughts.

“What the fûçk is wrong with me?” she silently wondered.

“You sure you’re okay?” Collins asked again, concern lacing his tone.

She nodded, pulling herself back to reality.

They walked toward the school gate, where her bike was still parked. Collins took it upon himself to lift it into his car trunk. As he did, he casually mentioned,

“I saw someone running off when I drove in.”

Cookie shot him a sharp glance.

” Who?,” she asked instantly, her voice tight with resolve.

Whoever did this won’t go unpunished.

“Who was it? Who knocked me out and dumped me in the pool?” she demanded, urgency in her voice.

Collins leaned against the car, thinking.

“I don’t know her personally, but she goes to this school too. Long black hair, skinny, wearing a black hoodie with a cat on the back,” he described.

Cookie froze, her mind racing to connect the dots. Suddenly, it hit her, hard enough that she staggered. Collins moved to steady her, but she had already regained her balance.

“Jennifer,” she whispered, the name escaping her lips like a curse.

It had always been her sister, Jennifer.

Cookie thought Jennifer was satisfied with her disappearance, but now it was clear, Jennifer wasn’t done.

Not by a long shot.

She got into the car, her mind made up. This has to end. The games, the drama, it was all over.

Collins slid into the driver’s seat beside her, putting on his seat belt.

“Where to?” He asked.

“My parents’ house,” she replied, her voice switching from the soft calm voice to a dark tone he barely recognizes.
