CLAN, LADY SELESTA’S APARTMENT*
Angelika is asleep in bed.
She dozed off immediately she ate her dinner of garnished noodles.
Lady Selesta got her sleeping socks and sat beside her in bed, taking her tiny legs to wear them on.
The weather temperature is going high these days, and that only means the first rain of the year is happening soon.
It’s March ending anyways, so the downpour will come anytime and mark the beginning of spring.
The heat changed her mind about the socks, so she removed it from Angelika’s foot and covered her with the quilt instead.
Immediately she did, her phone rang on the bedstand, and she quickly went for it.
Fear was written boldly on her face when she saw the caller, and she speedily swiped green.
“Hello ma’am!” She stood at tension.
“How’s my daughter doing?” The cold female voice asked.
“She’s already asleep after taking noodles” Selesta replied.
“Didn’t you say she’s allergic to shrimps?” The voice asked.
“Yeah. I usually garnish her noodles without shrimps trust me” Selesta said, and silence rented the line till Selesta spoke up again.
“You’ve never called this late before”
“The special ops had late field training, and as the commander, you don’t expect me to be full of time. Why the questions though? You mean I can’t call to ask about my daughter anytime?” The voice replied, sounding colder.
“No no no that’s not what I meant, ma’am. I was just…
“Is that my mommy on phone?” Angelika’s voice suddenly asked, and Selesta turned to see her sitting in bed already with a questioning look on her round face.
“Oh no” Selesta muttered.
“Mommy!!!” Angelika shouted, getting down from the bed quickly.
“She caught me, ma’am” Selesta said on phone.
“Give her the phone” the voice replied, and she handed the phone to Angelika immediately.
“Mommy?” She slowly said.
It took a while before the voice spoke…
“Hey baby”
Tears of joy rushed out of Angelika’s eyes, and she held the phone tighter to her ear.
“I love you mommy. I love you so much but why are you refusing to see me? I want to see what you look like and snap pictures with you so I can show my classmates when we resume next week. I’m not going back to the boarding house if I don’t see you!!”
“I want to see you sweetheart, trust me but I only need time. I miss you a lot and it’s hard to sleep at night” the voice said.
“I miss you too but how much time do you need? I can’t wait anymore” Angelika said, wiping her tears.
“Just a little more time, ok? Selesta told me you rejected my gifts, are you that mad at me?” The voice said.
“I’ll take them now that you promised to come back soon” Angelika quickly replied.
“How’s your fath…I mean Madden. How’s he doing?” The voice asked.
“Oh…the scary man? He’s probably at his red manor by now. Mommy he kills without blinking, and everyone fears him here including me, but how do you know him?” Angelika asked.
“I’ll tell you the story when I’m back” the voice said.
“Come back soon mommy, I can’t wait to see you in the soldier uniform. I love you so much!” Angelika beamed.
“I love you too baby, now go to bed” the voice said.
“Yes mommy” Angelika replied, returning the phone to Selesta before going back to bed.
“Goodnight m…
Selesta hasn’t even finished talking when the woman hung up, and the phone made a loud click.
“Her mad temper” Selesta muttered before going to the bed.
She covered Angelika with the quilt again, rubbing her hair.
“How do you feel now?” She asked.
“Too good” Angelika said happily, and Selesta kissed her hair as her eyes went shut.
She slept off.
