“Lia? I heard about her also! How I wished the Emperor just killed everyone in the Wang family! They’re so brutal!!”. A servant spat kicking the bowl she was using to wash angrily with her leg.
“Hey! Did you hear what they’re all saying about your wicked family?! Why are you still here and not gone from this kingdom?!!”. The fat servant snapped loudly walking to Asa who still ignored them. Kai’s fists balled at the servant’s remark.
“Maybe she thinks the Emperor would still notice her, wasn’t she one of the contestants?”. Another servants replied.
“Yes i remembered the scene. Imagine she begging the Emperor with those fake tears of her, thank goodness he didn’t fall for it and made her a servant like us! Now she’ll be able to feel our pains also!”. A servant said hitting Asa’s head slightly from behind and Asa stopped pulling the water throwing her a glare and the other servants laughed
“What? Why the glare? You’re going to call your gaurds on us or report us to your father?”. The particular servant that hit Asa’s head said hitting her again on the same spot and Kai made to walk to them, but Asa gripped the girl’s hand tight twisting it hard and the others gasped as the girl began yelling out in pain.
Then Asa threw the others a stern glare.
“I was one of the contestants true! But i was also one of the most trained, i won’t put down my sophisticated aura cause I’m a servant like you all.
I won’t take it from any of you all! If my family treated you badly go face them yourselves and stop venting your frustrations on me!!—
“You think you didn’t annoy us also?!! Hana you remember when we got to the main market to try some silk wear on, who made us wait in line for the whole afternoon just because she was in the store and couldn’t decide on the particular robe she wanted to buy?!!”. A servant asked the other.
“Yes i remember!! I got scolded by the head maid for returning late to the palace that night, because lady Asa was out shopping and any store she was in we the lowly privileged aren’t allowed in!!”.
The Hana replied glaring at Asa who immediately let go of the girl she was holding and the girl moved away from her nursing her hand.
“If that’s the reason why you hate me then I’m sorry to say that your hate is just forced! Every other nobles in this city does it, why should i be an exception? Or were we really in the same class? If you were in my shoes you wouldn’t have done the same—
Asa wasn’t done when a servant threw a metal plate at her and the plate edge left a in her cheek before falling to the ground, her blood were even trickling down the cut, Kai’s eyes widened instantly.
“You stupid wrench! Hear the rubbish you just said!! You don’t even feel remorseful at all?!”. The fat servant who actually threw the plate at Asa spat angrily as she walked towards Asa.
“And what did you say about if we were in your shoes?! Tell me? Who wants to be in your filthy shoes! You fell from grace to grass so wishes to even borrow those worn out shoes of yours for even the slightest second!!”. The fat servant said pushing Asa’s chest hard and she staggered backwards towards the well.
“You are one of us now! You have no damn pride over us anymore!! We’re all equal here so you dare not order us on how we should see you! If we hate you, we do!
Nothing’s changing about that you hear me!!!”. The fat servant said as she made to push Asa again but Kai stepped in front of her this time, pushing the fat maid’s hand away and she fell to the ground.
“It Kai!”
“Since when does he visits the servant’s quarters?!”
The servants gasped as few random to help the fat servant up.
“Do you all want to be expelled from the palace for bullying?”. Kai threatened sternly and everywhere became silent as the servants shook their heads slowly.
“Then let it be the last time happens again”. Kai warned and some servants nodded slowly before returning back to their work.
Kai then turned to Asa who gave him an unpresentable stare.
“Did i ask for help?”. Asa asked and Kai said nothing at first.
“I know but you would have fell into the well if–
“Learn to mind your business next time”. Asa sneered before closing the well and walking away.
“Why is he defending the witch?”. A servant mumbled.
“He even pleaded for her at court yesterday”. Another servant said.
“Kai’s too good for her hope he doesn’t like her”. A servant added.
“Where’s she going to? She filled only ten out of the fifty barrels, who will fill up the remaining ones?”. The rest of the maids whispered as they watched Asa leave.
Kai watched her leave for a while before going after her. He finally caught up to her when she was about entering the room she was squatting with five other servants.
He held her arm and made her turn to face him.
“Asa what’s wrong with you? Why do you keep giving me the cold shoulders?”. Kai asked and Asa grinned leaving Kai in puzzlement.
“Should i smile at you each time I see you then? I should be grateful you helped me wipe my sister off the surface of this realm?”. Asa said and Kai sighed.
“How many times do I have to tell you that those were the Emperor’s orders–
“And you’re the Emperor’s personal guard that’s why I want you to stay away from me!! You’ll just make things more harder for me by following me around and making everyone gossip about me!
So just stay away!”. Asa snapped before opening her room door and going in, leaving Kai to stare at the door.
He looked disturbed and baffled as he turned away from the door and began walking away.
