INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 141 – 150
As soon as the call ended, Luke stepped into the house, and Kristin hurried toward him.
“What about Victor?”
“Richard didn’t say much, but he wants us at the city jail,” Luke replied, still puzzled as to why Richard was hiding the identity of the mastermind from him.
“If that’s what he wants, then we should go. I’m going to make sure Victor and whoever sent him pay dearly for what happened to my father,” Kristin vowed, her eyes burning with pain.
Kristin, Luke, Gladys, Romina, and Victor’s grandmother all went to the city jail, where Richard was waiting for them in the hallway.
“Heartbeat,” Kristin rushed to him. “Where’s Victor? Was he working alone?” she asked urgently.
Richard’s eyes drifted to Luke, who furrowed his brows, wondering why Richard was looking at him that way.
“Where’s my grandson? I need to speak to him before he’s sent to jail,” Victor’s grandmother cried, her voice trembling with tears.
“He’s in the morgue. He was murdered by the same person who sent him to kill my father-in-law,” Richard answered.
Victor’s grandmother broke into tears and collapsed to the floor; she was led away to see her deceased grandson.
“What about the mastermind who killed my husband?” Gladys asked, her tears threatening to fall.
Richard glanced at Luke again before leading them to an interrogation room.
“I didn’t kill the boy on purpose, and I didn’t kill Dante,” Cecelia’s voice echoed, stopping Luke in his tracks.
“What’s Cecelia doing in there?” Luke asked, staring at her through the glass window of the interrogation room.
“It turns out your ex-wife asked Victor to get rid of my wife’s father.”
“What?” The word came out as a whisper, followed by tears. Romina’s eyes were glued to him.
A sharp slap from the interrogator landed on Cecelia’s face.
“There’s no point in denying it. You may have gotten rid of Victor, but your phone conversation with him was traced. You told him to make sure the gas cookers were turned on to kill Dante Santiago!” the interrogator yelled, and Cecelia began laughing like a madwoman.
“Yes, I did it! I asked Victor to kill Dante, and I also killed Victor because that little rascal threatened me! As for Dante, I killed him on purpose to hurt Kristin! I want to see her in so much pain! And this is just the beginning!” Cecelia said, without a hint of regret.
Kristin clenched her fists at Cecelia’s words, and in unison, she and her mother barged into the room.
“You despicable woman!” Kristin yelled, snatching a baton from one of the policemen and bringing it down hard on Cecelia.
The policemen moved to stop her, but Richard stepped in. “Don’t even think about it,” he warned, his eyes darker than ever, and the officers immediately halted.
“You’re a monster! My dad didn’t deserve to die!” Kristin screamed, her rage and grief blending as she struck Cecelia with the baton, indifferent to the blood oozing from her body.
Gladys took her turn, kicking Cecelia and yanking at her hair. Cecelia, handcuffed, struggled to fight back, her entire body aching from the assault.
“Ahhhh!” Cecelia screamed when Kristin disfigured her arm with the baton. The police didn’t intervene; they dared not since Richard had given the order.
Luke stood motionless, tears streaming down his face. He couldn’t believe that the woman he once loved was capable of such evil.
He remembered Cecelia as the kind girl from high school, but now she had become a cheating wife and a murderer. Then he recalled how she had aborted four of his unborn children.
Kristin, fueled by her pain, didn’t stop hitting Cecelia, knowing that nothing she did would bring her father back, but that only drove her to continue.
