INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 41 – 50
Richard quietly followed Gladys from behind, and she stopped walking when she got to a point.
“Are you really my daughter’s boss?” Gladys asked.
Richard nodded his head, he tried to add an expression on his face, but it was stiff.
“Are you forbidden to smile?”
“I don’t know how to smile all the time. It appears and fades on its own” Richard answered.
Thinking about it, the only person who often smiled at is Kristin.
“Is that even possible?” Gladys asked again, but Richard didn’t reply.
She was from the gender he hates, he is just trying to interact with her, because she is Kristin’s mom.
“I will be straight with you. I don’t like you”
“I know. You don’t have to like me. I’m used to people hating me” Richard said.
“Do you love my daughter?”
Richard sighed inwardly, why is everyone asking him this question, when he doesn’t know what he feels?
“You don’t have to answer the question, I don’t want to hear it, either” Gladys said and continued walking.
“This is for firefly” Richard said, inwardly and continued following Gladys from behind.
Few walks, they arrived at a gathering where a group of farmers were drinking and chatting. They were also talking about farming too.
“Why am I here?” Richard asked.
“I might change my mind about hating you, if you socialize with these people,” Gladys said.
“I am not an extrovert” He turns to leave.
“Oh! It’s Mr. Handsome!” A female farmer grins, and before Richard could leave the gathering, she pulled him into their mist.
“It’s an honor to have Mr. Handsome sitting with us!” Another voice said, and they all cheered, laughing.
“Do you drink?”
“I don’t drink” Richard said, and buzzed off a female farmer who was trying to touch him.
“He can’t smile, and he can’t drink. We disapprove of him! He can’t be with her, Kristin!” Another voice said.
The rest of the farmers agree, while Gladys just watch.
Richard clenched his fist, his eyes went to the glass of alcohol on the table, and he quickly grabbed it.
Everyone went silent, watching if he’d drink it.
Richard hesitated before drinking the glass of alcohol, and when he did, the drunk farmers cheered for him.
“He can’t smile, but he can drink. We have approve of him!”
The farmers all agreed again, pouring more alcohol for Richard, laughing.
Few minutes, they were under the influence of alcohol, including Richard who wasn’t an alcoholic drinker.
The farmers were all speaking in tones cuz of their drunk state, Gladys wasn’t exceptional.
Richard stood up, and he was staggering as he walked, until Kristin found him.
She went to look for him, when he wasted time in returning.
“Mr. Grouchy!” She rushed to him.
“Firefly” He calls her name, and grins a little.
“My mom made you associate with the farmers, right? Why did you do it? You of all people won’t do it, just why?”
“I did it because of you,” He grins.
Kristin sighed and helped him sit down.
“You don’t have to do anything because for me, Mr. Grouchy”
“Why not?” He looked at her with blurry eyes.
“Because we are not real. Our contract is going to end after a year, and I don’t want to create memories with you and….”
Kristin was standing, so Richard pulled her closer and made her sit on his lap.
Kristin gasped and stared at the drunk man, she was sitting on his lap.
Richard’s hands coiled itself around her waist.
“We should go home, you’re drunk” Kristin tries standing up, but Richard sits her back on his lap.
With his left hand on her waist, his right hand went up to her face, caressing it softly.
Kristin felt butterflies tingling in her stomach as his hand caressed her face.
Richard stared at Kristin’s face and smiled.
“You’re beautiful Kristin”
Kristin has always received compliments from people that she is beautiful, but hearing it from Richard hits different.
This will be the first time he’d be telling her she is beautiful.
“I am beautiful?” She asked, she wanted him to say it again.
Richard’s hand went to her lips, caressing it just like how he did to her face.
“Firefly” He whispers her name.
Kristin’s brown eyes on his gray eyes.
“I think I am in love with you” His voice hushed.
