INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Lewis smirked upon seeing Richard glaring at him. He could read the meaning in Richard’s dark, cold eyes—he was ready to kill him and dump his body in the woods where their friendship began.

“You’re finally here, lover boy. Is this a husband-to-the-rescue scenario?” Lewis said sarcastically.

Richard, boiling with indignation, swiftly approached Lewis, grabbing his collar. With a huge punch that made Lewis lose a tooth, he sent him to the ground.

Richard checked Kristin for any bruises on her body.

“Did he hurt you?” he asked, his voice full of concern. Kristin shook her head but was sniffling.

Before Richard arrived, Kristin had feared she might die at Lewis’s hands.

Without wasting time, Richard untied her and carried her down from the edge of the cliff.

“Richard!” Lewis roared after spitting out his own blood.

Richard and Kristin’s eyes moved towards Lewis.

“You should leave while I’m still being nice,” Richard warned.

“Not without a fight!” Lewis spat, rushing at Richard and engaging in a fistfight. But it was useless; Lewis was no match for Richard’s taekwondo skills.

Richard had the upper hand, delivering punches to Lewis’s face.

Richard didn’t want to fight Lewis, especially after what had happened twenty years ago. But Lewis had pushed him to the edge, making him no longer able to fathom the depth of his anger.

Lewis laughed maniacally after Richard sent him to the ground again. “This is what I’ve been waiting for,” he sneered, blood staining his teeth. “For you to hit me for always trying to take you down. But you couldn’t do it because you’re eaten up by guilt. I guess she’s your weak spot, huh?”

Kristin stood there, confused, unable to grasp why Lewis hated Richard so deeply. The hatred was so intense that even a blind man could see it.

Richard took Kristin’s hand, ready to leave. He didn’t want to fight anymore because Lewis was right—he was consumed by guilt day and night for how he had mistreated Lewis twenty years ago.

Although Richard never showed it on his face, his heart broke a little every time he saw Lewis. That’s why he hadn’t laid a finger on him, despite all the terrible things Lewis had done to drag him back to square one.

As Richard began to lead Kristin away, Ophelia—his second nightmare—pushed open the rooftop door. Entering the scene, she shook out the ball anklet from her bag and the ball anklet began producing a jangling sound that filled Richard with dread.

Richard froze, fear gripping him as the sound he feared most echoed in his ears.

He let go of Kristin’s hand, his hands went to his ears, and he struggled to breathe. His eyes shook, and his legs weakened. Still plugging his ears, he fell to the ground, groaning and struggling to regain his breath.

His entire world centered around his helplessness.

“Mr. Grouchy!” Kristin attempted to help him, but a forceful grip from Lewis prevented her from doing so.

“Let me go!” she snapped, but Lewis held her tightly, watching Richard as he suffocated on the ground.

Ophelia continued shaking the ball anklet, delighted to see Richard so weak and helpless.

Lewis grabbed Kristin’s hair forcefully, and she screamed, trying to break free from his strong grip.

“Aren’t you going to save your wife? I already have her wrapped around my fingers,” Lewis mocked Richard, showing off his loose tooth and looking like a cartoon villain.

Richard tried to stand, but the sound from the ball anklet made him fall back to the ground.

“Let me go! Mr. Grouchy!” Kristin’s voice cracked as she tried her best to break free from Lewis’s grasp. Her heart ached seeing Richard in such a pitiful state.

He couldn’t move, and Ophelia’s torment with the ball anklet only intensified his distress.
