INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Richard held Kristin’s head, waiting patiently for her to wake up. Although he had sent a doctor to treat her burst forehead, she had not regained consciousness.

“Firefly,” he called softly, his tone full of worry as he gently caressed her head. For the first time, his usual cold expression was replaced with concern.

He couldn’t stop blaming himself for what happened to Kristin. If it weren’t for his conflict with Ophelia and Lewis, she wouldn’t be unconscious now.

Even after he had stabbed both Lewis and Ophelia, he had called for an ambulance, and they had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Richard’s anger toward Lewis was intense, so Lewis was in a more serious condition than Ophelia.

“Firefly,” he repeated, hoping she would wake up and brighten his dark world with her dazzling smile—the smile he cherished so much.

After a few minutes, Kristin slowly opened her eyes, and Richard’s joy was palpable.

“Mr. Grouchy,” she called weakly, still affected by the blow.

“Yes, Firefly,” he responded.

“Are you okay?” she asked, gently caressing his face.

“I should be the one asking that. It’s all my fault—you got dragged into my conflict with Ophelia and Lewis.”

Kristin exhaled and attempted to sit up. Richard quickly helped her, holding her hand tightly.

“Why does Lewis harbor so much resentment toward you? He said you’re worse than the devil, but I know you’re not that heartless. What happened between you two?” Kristin asked, her brown eyes locked on his gray ones, eager to hear his side of the story.

Richard exhaled deeply. He tried to speak, but the words wouldn’t come. When he finally did speak, he said, “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“You did something awful to him?” Kristin asked again, and Richard slowly nodded.

“I feel ashamed of myself, and that’s why I can’t tell you.”

“What happened to Lewis and Ophelia?”

“At the hospital.”

“What did you do to them, Mr. Grouchy?” Her voice was low-pitched; she knew what Richard was capable of when he was angry.

When he is angry, he loses control and only fixes his mistakes when his anger subsides.

“I couldn’t hold back when I saw you unconscious on the floor. My anger welled up, and all I could think about was ending their lives,” Richard said, though he didn’t regret what he did to Lewis and Ophelia. Thankfully, they were still alive.

“Are they still alive?”

Richard nodded. “But I don’t think I’m triggered by the sound of ball anklets anymore.”

“You aren’t?” A smile crept across her face.

“I’m not sure. But after you lost consciousness, I was no longer terrified by its sound, even when Ophelia tried to use it to scare me.”

Kristin grinned at Richard’s words and quickly got out of bed.

“Where are you going?” Richard asked as she headed for the door.

“I’ll be back,” she said with a smile.
