INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Kristin left the room and returned holding a nylon bag with a ball anklet sealed inside.

“That’s the gift you got from the department store, right? I thought you said you’d gotten rid of it?” Richard’s eyes were on her.

“I didn’t literally throw it away; I just disposed of it from you,” she smiled.

“Why are you showing it to me?” he asked calmly.

“I just want to know if you’ve really conquered your fear of jangling sounds.”

“Firefly, you can’t—”

“I promise to get rid of it if you’re still triggered by it,” Kristin said, raising her right hand as if making an oath.

Richard looked at her but didn’t say a word.

“Should I?” Kristin asked, attempting to unseal the ball anklet.

Richard stared at the ball anklet and slowly nodded. He usually avoids letting jangling sounds reach his ears, but now he wants to face his fear.

If he doesn’t, Lewis and Ophelia will use it against him and cause harm to Kristin.

He didn’t want even the slightest scratch to appear on the body of the fragile woman standing in front of him.

It took Richard a lot of courage before he finally gave Kristin permission to unseal the ball anklet. Though he wasn’t sure if he could resist the way he did after Kristin lost consciousness, but it was time for him to confront his fear to protect Kristin, a charming woman who is gradually winning his heart.

Kristin hesitated before unsealing the ball anklet. Although she wanted Richard to overcome his fear, she didn’t like seeing him in pain.

With a glimmer of hope, she finally unsealed the anklet, and the jangling sound filled the room.

At first, Richard felt triggered, but remembering how he had managed to overcome it earlier, he stood his ground, unshaken by the sound of the ball anklet.

Kristin rushed into Richard’s arms, her toes barely touching the ground.

“I’m happy you’ve overcome your fear, Mr. Grouchy,” she said, tears of joy in her eyes.

“I haven’t fully overcome it, Firefly,” he replied.

Kristin broke the hug, her wet brown eyes smiling at him.

“At least you’re not as triggered as you used to be,” she grinned, hugging him again. With her toes still above the ground, she struggled to give him a deep embrace.

Richard smiled and lifted her off the ground; Kristin gasped at his sudden action.

He placed her gently on the table, her eyes finally meeting his.

“You can hug me properly now,” he said with a smile, showing off his well-arranged set of teeth.

“Is this your way of mocking me for being short?” she asked as her hands found their way to his neck.

She was sitting on the table, so she could reach up to his height.

“That’s why you should have been present on the day of height class.”

“Mr. Grouchy!” She hit his chest lightly and laughed.

Richard’s eyes were fixed on her, watching her face like a movie; he could stay up all day admiring her beautiful face without getting tired.

“Why are you looking at me?” she asked, her face forming a blushing smile.

“You’re beautiful,” he said with a smile.
