INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 71 – 80
Richard returned to Kristin but his mood darkened when he saw her laughing with a man. The man was a customer, but Richard didn’t care. He approached them and gave the man a hard shove.
“Stay away from my wife,” Richard glared.
“I was just talking to her. She’s your wife, not your property,” the man replied. He was a foreigner and didn’t realize the extent of Richard’s anger.
“What did you just say?” Richard demanded, his voice menacing.
“Mr. Grouchy…”
“Stay out of this,” Richard snapped at Kristin, then turned back to the foreigner. “Repeat what you just said.”
“She’s only your wife, not your…” The foreigner didn’t finish his sentence because Richard landed a powerful punch to his face.
A fistfight ensued. Kristin tried to stop the fight, but Richard continued to pummel the man, who had done nothing wrong. It took the intervention of employees and some customers to pull the foreigner away from Richard’s rage.
The customers dared not share any details online.
Richard forcibly took Kristin’s hand and dragged her into his office within the establishment.
“What was the meaning of that nonsense, Mr. Grouchy?” Kristin demanded.
“You call what I did nonsense?” Richard fumed.
“Yes, it was! That man was from the Philippines, the same country as my mom. He was just happy to see someone who could relate to him in Filipino, and you had to punch him?!”
“I hate it when you laugh with other men! And that man had the audacity to tell me what I can and cannot do!” Richard raged, his anger consuming his reason.
“You don’t go around hitting people who try to talk to me. You don’t own me, Mr. Grouchy.”
“Shut up,” he warned, his eyes darkening.
“Why should I shut up when you almost sent an innocent man to his grave? You don’t own me! I’m not your possession!”
“Kristin!” he roared. Before he could control his anger, he did something Kristin never thought he’d do to her. He slapped her.
He slapped her hard across the face.

Kristin’s eyes widened in shock and pain as she stumbled back, her hand flying to her cheek where he had struck her.
The weight of his actions hung heavily in the room, and the silence that followed was filled with an unspoken understanding of the gravity of what had just happened.
Richard’s face reflected pure shock as he realized what he had done.
He had slapped Kristin.
He had slapped the woman his heart was falling for.
He wasn’t a woman beater, but he had raised his hand against the one person who lit up his world.
“Firefly,” he called, his voice thick with regret.
For the second time, he had let his anger take control, but this time it was worse because he had struck her.
“Firefly,” he tried to reach out to her, but she shrank back, tears streaming down her face.
“I’m sorry. I… I… didn’t mean to,” he pleaded. He hadn’t intended to hurt Kristin, but when his anger took over, he lost control.
Kristin didn’t say a word, her cheek stinging from the slap. If someone had told her that Richard would ever dare to hit her, she would have defended him, but now she realized she had been wrong. These thoughts raced through her mind as she turned to leave.
She had nothing to say to Richard; she was too shocked to speak.
