INTO THE DEPTHS OF LOVE : CHAPTER 81 – 90

Richard smiled again, finding it oddly easy to warm up to her.

“What if I say no?” he teased.

“Then I’ll cry,” she pouted, and Richard chuckled again.

“Alright, you can call me Daddy Richard.”

“Yay! I love you!” Kathryn exclaimed, kissing his cheek and wrapping her arms around his neck.

“Can I live with you too? I don’t want to stay in a hotel.”

“Well…”

“She’ll be going back to Glenwood. No need for that,” Kristin interjected, taking Kathryn from Richard’s arms.

“But I don’t want to go back! I want to stay with Daddy Richard,” Kathryn whined, but after a sharp look from Kristin, she quieted down.

“She insisted on seeing you, so I brought her. I’ll take her back to my parents—they’re heading back to Glenwood soon,” Kristin said before walking away with Kathryn.

“She’s still mad at me,” Richard muttered sadly.

Cecelia was on her way to Lewis’s office when his secretary stopped her.

“My boss isn’t here.”

“Where is he?” Cecelia asked, her face hidden behind large sunglasses.

“He’s in the hospital.”

“Hospital? Why?” Cecelia asked, annoyed. She had come to see Lewis, hoping he would sleep with her and give her more money for the jewelry she wanted to flaunt at the next gathering with her friends.

“I don’t know the full story, but he’s in the hospital and hasn’t woken up yet,” the secretary said.

“Thanks for the information,” Cecelia said with a forced smile and left.

Later that night, Kristin returned home and found Richard on the phone. She waited until he finished, eager to talk and resolve things between them. She was tired of the distance.

Richard ended the call and turned to see Kristin standing there.

“Firefly,” he said softly, guilt evident in his eyes.

“I thought you’d be spending the night at the hotel with your parents again,” he said, though he was relieved she was home.

“I’m back,” she replied quietly, staring at the floor.

Richard walked up to her and gently lifted her chin. “I’m sorry,” he whispered.

Kristin nodded. “You won’t do it again, right?”

Richard nodded quickly. “I’ve enrolled in a therapy program. I’m going to work on controlling my anger.”

“I know. I wasn’t asleep the night you mentioned it. I was just too hurt that you could do that to me.”

“I’m really sorry.”

“It’s okay. I forgive you,” Kristin smiled.

“I’ve missed that smile,” Richard said, hugging her tightly.

He broke the hug and said, “I have something to tell you.”

“Go ahead, I’m listening,” Kristin said, her hands still locked in his.

“I bought a house for your family.”

The smile on Kristin’s face vanished, and she pulled away from him. “Why would you do that? They’re going back to Glenwood.”

“They’re your family, Firefly. Baby Kathy doesn’t want to go back to Glenwood, so I bought a house for your parents. They can start a business here, and I’ll take care of everything.”

“You’re doing too much.”

“Too much? You’re my wife, and they’re your family. I need to take care of them.”

“Have you forgotten this ends in a year? We lied to my parents, Mr. Grouchy! Buying a house and starting a business for them will definitely lead them to find out about our contract marriage.”

“They won’t find out,” Richard said confidently.

“How can you be so sure? If they stay in Vegas, they’ll figure it out,” Kristin replied, anxiety creeping into her voice.
