THE CURSE OF ALTVALL : CHAPTER 31 – 40

Two of Surganah’s lieutenants grabbed him and slammed him to his knees in the village square.

The people who once chanted his name gasped.

“Mighty Alpha Gaige,” Surganah said, walking in slow circles around him. “Protector of Altvall. Slayer of darkness. Defender of the helpless. Look at you now.”

He leaned in close.

“You were so easy to break. Not with sword. Not with claw. But with pleasure. With lust.”

Gaige didn’t respond.

He couldn’t even lift his head.

“You fell for the girl. My girl. She was human. But I made her just enough… tempting.” Surganah chuckled. “A drop of my blood. A touch of my spirit. A beautiful shell. You invited your downfall into your bed.”

He turned to the stunned villagers.

“This… is your savior?”

Gasps rippled.

Children clung to their mothers. Men lowered their eyes.

Surganah turned back to Gaige.

“You lost your strength the moment you made her your Queen. You ignored the warnings of your God. And now… even He has rejected you.”

He waved his hand. “Take him. Lock him beneath the altar. Tomorrow, we execute him. Let all of Altvall see what becomes of false heroes.”

The guards dragged Gaige away.

Audrey sat on a silken couch, clothed in a flowing red gown. Her hands trembled. Her heart raced. She didn’t know where she was—only that the room pulsed with power.

Surganah entered.

She stood, but didn’t speak.

He stared at her for a long moment before saying, “You played your part well.”

Audrey’s lips quivered. “I… I didn’t know—”

“I didn’t expect you to,” he said. “That was the beauty of it. Your confusion made your seduction real. It made him trust you. Love you.”

She sat back down slowly.

“Please don’t hurt him,” she whispered.

“I already have,” Surganah said. “But because of you, I’ll spare your life. You’re not useless. You will stay here. With me.”

She looked up sharply.

“No.”

“You don’t have a choice,” he said coldly. “You are still mine. You’ve always been mine.”

He left her there, alone. The door sealed with a whisper of magic.

Audrey clenched her fists.

Something inside her screamed.
