The boy’s breathing echoed in the stone chamber, soft yet persistent—a haunting reminder that he still lived.

Kelzar, Bard, and Thorne stood around him, their thoughts a storm of confusion.

Jeun should have been long gone. His chest had been pierced, not once, but twice. And yet the wound had closed—again.

Kelzar muttered, “I don’t understand. That knife was forged by the High Warlock of Norvain himself. The poison inside should have spread like wildfire. Why does it keep healing?”

Bard clenched his jaw and turned to the shadows where Surganah stood watching in silence.

For a moment, none of them dared speak. The child’s chest rose and fell in steady rhythm now, as if sleep, not pain, had overtaken him.

Then Kelzar finally stepped forward, slow and regal, holding a new blade—one none of them had ever seen before. Its handle was wrapped in red wolfskin, and the blade shimmered like glass bathed in blood.

“This one,” Kelzar said coldly, “was taken from the Temple of Shatur. It has ended the lives of many born from cursed blood. If this boy is of Gaige… then this blade will reveal it.”

The Alphas stepped back instinctively.

Kelzar approached the slab and, with eyes blazing and hand steady, drove the blade straight into Jeun’s side.

The room tensed. The boy groaned.

But then—just like before—the impossible happened.

The wound sealed.

Right before their eyes.

The blade had no effect. It vanished inside his flesh like a whisper, and the moment it was pulled free, the skin closed as if nothing had touched it. Not even a scar remained.

The silence was suffocating.

Bard stumbled back, his face pale. “He’s not even of this world…”

“This child…” Kelzar whispered, “He’s more than Gaige. More than you, Surganah. What is he?”

Kelzar’s eyes narrowed, fury twisting his expression. “No blade forged by man or beast can kill this boy. His blood is shielded. Guarded. Favored.”

Thorne threw up his hands. “Then what now? We can’t keep him here. We can’t kill him. We can’t watch him forever.”

“Then cast him away!” Bard barked suddenly.

The chamber fell still again.

It was Thorne who finally said what they were all thinking.

“We should take him away. Far. To the edge of the island. Leave him where even the winds forget to blow. Let the wild devour him. Let the cold take him.”
