THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 1 – 10
(INTO THE FUTURE)
The sun was shining brightly as the new students of Nightshade Wonderland gathered in the courtyard. Lilith, a senior with striking features and an enchanting smile, stood before them.
“You are all welcomed to our school,” Lilith said, her voice warm and inviting. “I’m sure you’re going to love it here.”
The new students exchanged excited glances, their eyes sparkling with anticipation. One of them, a timid-looking girl with curly brown hair, raised her hand.
“What should we expect from here?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lilith’s smile broadened. “A lot of fun and trouble,” she said, her eyes glinting with mischief. “Let’s just say some of you will have fun, and some will be…unlucky.”
The new students laughed nervously, unsure what to make of Lilith’s enigmatic warning.
Arachne, a petite girl with butterfly flying around her, raised her hand next.
“Can you tell us the history of the school?” she asked.
Lilith nodded, a faraway look in her eyes. “Nightshade Wonderland was founded thousands of years ago,” she began. “It was founded by Master Nox, a powerful sorcerer who sought to create a haven for magical beings.”
As Lilith spoke, the air around her began to shimmer and shine. The new students gasped in wonder as images began to appear in the air, illustrating Lilith’s words.
They saw Master Nox, a tall, imposing figure with piercing eyes, standing before a grand, sprawling castle. They saw his son, a young man with a mischievous grin, taking over the school after Master Nox’s death.
And they saw Mistress Morwen, a stately woman with long, flowing hair, taking the reins after Master Darko’s passing.
“I hear Mistress Morwen has two daughters,” Arachne said, her eyes sparkling with interest.
Lilith’s smile faltered for a moment, before she regained her composure.
“Yes, that’s true,” she said.
“Maledicta and Benedicta. I would really advise you all to stay away from the first one…if you love your life.” She warned.
The new students exchanged nervous glances, unsure what to make of Lilith’s warning.
But before they could ask any more questions, a commotion broke out at the edge of the courtyard, students were running away, their faces pale and frightened.
“What’s going on?” one of the new students asked, alarm rising in her voice.
Lilith’s eyes flicked towards the disturbance, before she turned back to the new students.
“Just hide for now,” she said, her voice low and urgent.
The new students didn’t need to be told twice. They scattered, hiding behind nearby statues or darting into the nearby buildings.
Arachne stood frozen, unsure what to do. But before she could move, Lilith grabbed her arm and pulled her into a nearby alcove.
“Don’t speak,” Lilith whispered, her eyes fixed on something across the courtyard. “Just watch.”
Arachne peeked around the edge of the alcove, her heart pounding in her chest. And then she saw her.
Maledicta, Mistress Morwen’s daughter, was walking across the courtyard, her eyes fixed on some point in the distance, her white hair reaching her waist. Her aura was like nothing Arachne had ever seen before – cold, chilling, and utterly terrifying.
People were running away from her, their faces pale and frightened. And Arachne could see why. Maledicta’s very presence seemed to draw the light out of the air, leaving only darkness and shadow in her wake.
“That’s Maledicta,” Lilith whispered, her voice barely audible. “The daughter of Mistress Morwen. She’s cursed, and a glare from her can send you to the ground. And that dark shadow looming around her…that’s doom.”
