THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 11 – 20
Ryder was sitting with Kaiden in his room, regaling him with stories about their school and its students. The atmosphere was relaxed, with a warm and cozy glow emanating from the lamps scattered around the room.
But as they chatted, the sky outside suddenly darkened, and rain began to fall in thick, heavy drops. Kaiden’s eyes lit up with excitement as he jumped up from the bed and rushed to the window.
“The sky is beautiful,” he breathed, his eyes fixed on the rain-soaked landscape outside.
“Yeah, a lot of students love playing in the rain. It’s warm and healing, and it’s said to cure any sickness.”Ryder chuckled.
“I could…” Kaiden began, but his words were cut short by a loud clap of thunder that shook the room.
A high-pitched scream followed immediately, making Kaiden jump in shock.
“What is that?” he asked, his eyes wide with alarm.
Ryder’s expression turned somber. “That scream is from Maledicta. She’s always like that when thunder strikes.”
“Why?” Kaiden asked in surprise.
Ryder’s voice dropped to a whisper. “It’s part of her curse. She’s punished by thunder.”
As if to illustrate Ryder’s words, another thunderclap boomed outside, and Maledicta’s scream echoed through the corridors once more.
Kaiden’s eyes were fixed on the window, where he could see Maledicta crawling in the rain, her body convulsing with each thunderclap. She kept screaming and trying to vanish, but she ended up falling back down, her body wracked with pain.
“She’s in a lot of pain,” Kaiden said worriedly, his eyes fixed on Maledicta’s struggling form.
Ryder nodded grimly. “Yeah, she’ll continue like this until the rain stops. This always happens every time.” He said.
Kaiden’s eyes flashed with anger. “And no one tries to help?” He asked.
Ryder shook his head. “No one can interfere. We can just pray that the rain stops on time.” Ryder said.
Kaiden was already moving towards the door.
“I can’t watch this. She needs help.” He said.
“You can just lay on the bed and cover your ears. That’s what most other students do.”Ryder said.
But Kaiden was undeterred. “I can’t do that. I can’t leave her like this.” He said.
And with that, he flung open the door and sprinted out into the rain, Ryder’s shocked face watching him from the window.
Other students, who had been watching the scene unfold from their own windows, looked on in amazement as Kaiden rushed to Maledicta’s side.
Without thinking twice, Kaiden grabbed Maledicta’s hand, his eyes locked on her pain-contorted face.
“Are you okay?” he asked worriedly, his voice barely audible over the thunder.
Maledicta couldn’t talk, but she hugged Kaiden tightly, her body shaking with cold.
Kaiden wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be okay.” He said.
Maledicta’s body relaxed, and she dropped her head onto Kaiden’s chest, losing consciousness.
The rain and thunder stopped immediately.
