“He is waiting inside,” the guard muttered before leaving.
Ryder took a deep breath before entering the room. He saw Lucan sitting on a chair, his eyes fixed on him. Ryder went to stand in front of him, a little confused about why he had been called.
“Sit down,” Lucan said, his voice cold and detached.
Ryder sat down in the chair opposite him, his eyes locked on the ground.
“Look at me,” Lucan said, his voice firm.
Ryder looked up to meet his eyes, feeling a shiver run down his spine.
“I hear we are friends,” Lucan said, his eyes narrowing.
“Yeah, we are friends,” Ryder said with a smile, trying to sound casual.
Lucan stared at his face, his eyes searching for something. “Can you tell me who I am?” he asked.
Ryder hesitated for a momentbefore speaking. “You are the most friendly person I’ve met. At first, I didn’t like you because you’re human, but as I got to know you, we became really close. I even told you my secret.” He said.
Lucan’s expression didn’t change, but Ryder could sense a flicker of emotion behind his eyes.
“Did you expect me to believe that?” Lucan asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Didn’t you befriend me because I’m weak?” He scoffed.
Ryder shook his head. “I didn’t. You’re not weak. Though you’re different from us, you didn’t let that get to you.” He said.
Lucan’s eyes narrowed. “What about Maledicta? Did I have some sort of relationship with her?” He asked.
Ryder nodded. “You two are really close. You’re like her only friend. When No one else is around.” He said
Lucan’s expression turned cold. “I don’t believe any of this. I don’t know why you’re lying. You can leave now, and don’t think you’re special to me.” He said.
Ryder stood up, his eyes locked on Lucan’s.
“I’ll make sure I do what I can to bring you back, Kaiden. Just hang in there.” He said.
Lucan scoffed, but Ryder could see a glimmer of uncertainty in his eyes. Ryder left the room, feeling a sense of determination.
As soon as Ryder left, Lucan grabbed his head, groaning in pain.
“What is he talking about?” Lucan scoffed, but suddenly, he had a flashback. Someone was telling him something, though he couldn’t see the person’s face.
“I hate attention. I prefer people not knowing about my identity. You are the only one who knows now, so please don’t tell anyone that I’m a prince.”
Lucan’s eyes snapped open, and he stood up, his mind reeling. What was that? He didn’t remember anything about being a prince.
He slowly walked toward the window and saw the students sitting and talking. He stared at them for a while, feeling a sense of disconnection.
He didn’t know what to believe. If only he could remember his memories. He hated the way these people were making him feel weak.
“Tell them to go to their rooms,” he told one of the guards before laying down on the bed.
His mind drifted to Maledicta, and he groaned frustratedly.
She just had to become stronger, then he would take her to her town. They would fight in front of her people, and he would kill her, destroy Nightshade, and take over the world.
Lucan smiled to himself. He would show them all what he was capable of. He would show them all what it meant to be Lucan.
