THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 21 – 30

Kaiden’s heart sank. He had been afraid of this. “About that…” he started to say, but Benedicta cut him off.

“Don’t tell me you slept in her room,” she shouted, her voice echoing off the walls.

Kaiden winced, feeling a surge of embarrassment. “Can you keep your voice down?” he whispered, looking around nervously.

But Benedicta was beyond reason. “I told you Cassius likes her,” she said, her voice trembling with anger.

“You must really hate your life because he is capable of killing you. I’m so disappointed in you” she said.

“It wasn’t like that,It’s complicated” he said, trying to explain.

But Benedicta just shook her head.

“I don’t want to hear it,” she said, turning and stalking off down the corridor.

Kaiden watched her go, feeling a mix of emotions.

As he continued on his way, Kaiden couldn’t help but wonder why Benedicta had looked so angry. He knew that she was protective of her sister, but he hadn’t realized that she felt so strongly about it.

“Sorry,” a voice said as Ryder was suddenly bumped into, the book he was holding flying out of his hands.

Ryder bent down to pick up the book, noticing that an intricately embroidered handkerchief had also fallen to the ground. He picked it up, admiring the beautiful stitching before looking up to see the owner of the handkerchief hurrying away.

Ryder quickly tucked the book under his arm and took off after the girl, weaving through the crowded corridors. He finally caught up to her just as she was about to turn a corner, grabbing her shoulder to stop her.

But instead of turning around, the girl suddenly spun around, using Ryder’s momentum against him. She grabbed his arm and flipped him over her shoulder, sending Ryder crashing to the ground.

Ryder’s eyes widened in surprise as he found himself staring up at the girl, who was now standing over him, a dagger pointed directly at his eyes.

“What did you want?” The girl asked coldly.

“i just want to give you something” he said while trying to keep his voice steady as he slowly moved the dagger away from his face.

The girl’s eyes narrowed, but she slowly lowered the dagger, her gaze never leaving Ryder’s face.

“You dropped this,” Ryder said quickly, holding out the handkerchief.

“I just wanted to give it back to you.” He added.

The girl’s expression softened, and she sheathed her dagger, standing up and offering Ryder a hand up. Ryder took it, dusting himself off as he stood up.

“I am so sorry,I thought you were something else.”the girl said, bowing her head.

Ryder’s eyes widened in surprise as the girl’s long, dark hair fell forward, covering her face, she looks so beautiful.

“It’s nothing,I shouldn’t have touched you like that.” Ryder quickly said.

The girl chuckled, pushing her hair back behind her ear.

“I’m actually new here,I’m Aka.” she said, a mischievous glint in her eye.

Ryder’s eyes locked onto hers, and he felt a sudden jolt of attraction.

“I’m Ryder I could show you around if you want.”he said, trying to sound casual.

Aka’s smile faltered for a moment before she replied, “Sorry, but someone already took that spot.”

Ryder’s face fell, but he tried to hide his disappointment.

“Oh, too bad. See you around then.” He said before leaving.

Aka smirked, her eyes glinting with amusement. “Yeah, see you.”

“I should get him wrapped around my finger,he could be useful too.”she muttered to herself while watching him leave.

As she walked, Aka’s gaze fell on the handkerchief, which she had tucked into her pocket. For a moment, her expression changed, a flicker of something like sadness or longing crossing her face.

But it was quickly replaced by her usual confident smirk. Aka tucked the handkerchief deeper into her pocket and continued on her way.
