THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 31 – 40
Maledicta’s body slowly relaxed, her tense muscles easing as she felt Kaiden’s warmth. She opened her eyes.
Kaiden smiled and stroked her hair. “Are you feeling sleepy?” he asked.
Maledicta shook her head, her eyes never leaving his face.
“How about I tell you a story?” Kaiden offered, trying to distract her from the storm.
Maledicta didn’t respond, but she didn’t look away either. Kaiden took that as a sign to continue.
“I’ll tell you about myself,” he said, a sad smile spreading across his face.
“I could remember waking up on a bed, I was ten then. I couldn’t remember anything about my past, and till now, I haven’t.”
Maledicta’s eyes narrowed, her gaze intensifying as she listened to Kaiden’s story.
“I saw a man who called himself my father, and he told me my mom left. But I learned ten years later that I actually killed my mom. I don’t know how that happened, I don’t know what I did to her.”
Kaiden’s voice cracked, and he paused, taking a deep breath before continuing.
“My dad got involved in gambling and always came home drunk. He lost his job and started borrowing loans. Then, two years ago, he suddenly disappeared. I don’t know where to, I’ve been hunted by his loan sharks since then.”
“I work a lot just to pay his loans off, but it seems like the loans keep increasing. I couldn’t find a job because of those loan sharks following me around, they always threaten to kill me.”
Kaiden’s voice dropped to a whisper, his eyes filled with a deep sadness.
“I’m grateful you took me away from a place like that. I don’t even know how to thank you, so I’ll just continue to do my best.” He said.
Maledicta’s voice was barely above a whisper. “You did me a favor too.”
“I must have bored you out with my story.” He smiled.
Maledicta shook her head, her eyes locked on his face. “You didn’t. I’m glad you opened up to me.”
Kaiden’s smile faltered, and he looked away, trying to compose himself.
“I don’t think my story will work, let’s try a song,” he said, trying to lighten the mood.
Maledicta closed her eyes, a soft smile spreading across her face. Kaiden began to sing, his voice low and soothing.
As he sang, Maledicta’s mind felt at peace, the voices in her head quiet for once. She felt relieved, and before she knew it, she fell asleep.
Kaiden finished the song and smiled when he saw that Maledicta was already asleep. He covered her well and studied her face, his eyes tracing the contours of her features.
“She looks so pretty and innocent right now that people could misunderstand her as an angel,” he chuckled.
He leaned down and pecked her forehead, his lips brushing against her skin. Maledicta stirred, moving closer to him.
Kaiden smiled and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.

The school atmosphere was electric with excitement. Students were packing their bags and saying their goodbyes, eager to head home for the Nightshade Goddess festival.
The air was filled with the sound of laughter and chatter, and the smell of freshly baked goods wafted through the corridors.
Kaiden stretched and yawned, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. He had slept soundly, without any of the gruesome nightmares that had been plaguing him lately.
He looked beside him, expecting to see Maledicta, but she was already gone. She must have teleported, he thought, smiling to himself as he remembered their peaceful sleep.
He got out of bed and went to open the door and to his surprise, Benedicta was standing in the doorway, a bright smile on her face.
“I was just about to knock,” she said, hugging him tightly as they entered the room together.
Kaiden laughed and hugged her back, “What are you doing here this early?” he asked, slightly pushing her off.
