Benedicta stormed into the dining room, dropping her food on the table. She was furious, and she didn’t know why. She just felt like she was going to explode.
She turned and walked out of the dining room, heading straight for her mother’s room. But when she got there, Mistress Morwen wasn’t there. She check the study room and she wasn’t there too, so she finally had the idea where she could be. She approached a room and saw her mother sitting on the bed.
The room was beautiful, with a big bed and a desk. It looked like a room that had been specially designed for someone.
“What are you doing?” Benedicta asked, her voice cold and hard.
Her mother turned around, a sad look on her face.
“I just couldn’t stop thinking about how beautiful it would be for her to sleep in this room,” she said.
“For her to attend the festival like every other person. I felt like I wasn’t a good mother for not making that happen.” Mistress Morwen added.
Benedicta’s anger boiled over. “So you’re going to start worrying about her again?” she asked, her voice rising. “Did you ever care about me?”
Her mother looked at her in surprise. “What are you talking about, Benedicta?” she asked.
“I saw you every year, how sad you were when it was time for the festival,” she said. “Have you ever thought about me too? I’m your daughter too.” She yelled.
Her mother’s expression changed, and she looked at Benedicta with a mixture of sadness and guilt. “You’re being selfish, Benedicta,” she said. “You have everything Maledicta will ever want. She’s been living in darkness all her life, and you’re still complaining.” She said.
Benedicta’s face twisted with anger and hurt. “Why is it always her?” she cried. “I want to be loved too.”
Her mother’s expression softened, and she walked towards Benedicta. “You know I love and care for you both,” she said.
But Benedicta was beyond consolation. “No, you don’t,” she said, her voice cold and hard.
“If you did, you wouldn’t be thinking about her when I’m right next to you.” She said and with that, she turned and stormed out of the room, leaving her mother behind.
