THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 71 – 80
Maledicta shook a little, slowly regaining consciousness. She opened her eyes, confusion etched on her face as she stared at the unfamiliar room. But as memories of the previous night flooded back, she sat up with a start.
The older physician, who had been sitting beside her bed, placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
“You have to rest, your body is still weak.” She said.
Maledicta shook off the physician’s hand, her eyes scanning the room frantically.
“Where is Kaiden?” she asked, her voice trembling with worry.
“He’s okay, he needs rest too.” The older lady said.
“Take me to him.” Maledicta said.
The physician sighed, nodding reluctantly. “Very well, but please, don’t exert yourself too much.” She said.
Maledicta didn’t respond, already throwing off the covers and swinging her legs over the side of the bed. The physician helped her up, supporting her as she walked to Kaiden’s room.
As they entered the room, Maledicta’s eyes locked onto Kaiden’s pale face. She rushed to his side, grabbing his hand in hers. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she took in his weak, fragile appearance.
“It’s my fault,” she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. “I should have stayed away from him.”
Before she knew it, tears started falling from her eyes, dropping onto Kaiden’s face. He stirred, his eyes fluttering open as he smiled weakly at Maledicta.
“I’m glad you’re safe,” he said gently, his voice barely above a whisper.
Maledicta’s tears fell harder, her body shaking with sobs.
“How can you still care about me when I put you in trouble?” she snapped, her voice laced with guilt and regret.
Kaiden’s smile never wavered. “I told you I’d protect you, so stop crying. This isn’t like you.” He said.
He gently wiped away her tears, his touch sending shivers down her spine. But Maledicta couldn’t stop crying, overcome with emotion as she stared at Kaiden’s pale face.
Kaiden pulled her closer, hugging her tightly as she sobbed into his chest. Ryder, who had been about to enter the room, stopped in his tracks, a small smile on his face as he watched the tender moment between Kaiden and Maledicta. He nodded to himself, backing away quietly.
Mistress Morwen entered the room a few minutes later, a look of relief washing over her face as she saw Kaiden and Maledicta sitting up, holding each other.
“What happened?”How did you manage to consume Red Flame?” She asked Maledicta after some minutes.
“I don’t know.”Maledicta shrugged
Mistress Morwen’s eyes narrowed. “How is that possible? Have you eaten anything strange lately?” She asked.
Maledicta shook her head. “I ate nothing strange. Who knows, it could be part of my punishment for being cursed.” She said.
“I forbid it. You don’t know how worried I was when I thought you both were going to die. Kaiden, I know you don’t have any family in this world, I am ready to be your mom. Just come to me for anything.” She said while looking at Kaiden.
Kaiden’s face lit up with a warm smile. “Thank you…Mom.” He stammered.
Mistress Morwen’s eyes sparkled with tears as she patted Kaiden’s back.
“I’m glad you’re both safe. Now, get some rest.” She said.
As Mistress Morwen left the room, Maledicta rolled her eyes.
“Don’t mind her, she’s so dramatic.” She said.
Kaiden chuckled, pushing Maledicta gently into the bed. “No, I think I like her.” He said.
Maledicta smile as Kaiden snuggled beside her, wrapping his arms around her.
“We should spend today together.” She said.
“I like that.” Kaiden said.
He pecked her lips gently, sending shivers down her spine. Maledicta’s heart swelled with love and gratitude, knowing that Kaiden was safe, and that they had each other.
