THE MISTRESS’ DAUGHTER : CHAPTER 71 – 80

Ryder’s eyes scanned the letter, his expression growing increasingly somber. His parents wanted him to return to the palace in a few days.

They didn’t specify why, but Ryder knew. He knew that they were going to tell him about the girl they had betrothed to him without his permission.

Ryder’s jaw clenched in frustration as he crumpled the letter in his hand. He felt a surge of anger and resentment towards his parents.

He stood up and threw the letter out the window, watching as it fluttered away in the wind. Then, he lay down on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Meanwhile, Arachne was bouncing around the room, her face alight with excitement. She had just received a letter, and she couldn’t stop grinning. She was going to finally meet her betrothed.

“I’m going to finally see his face!” she squealed, jumping up and down on the bed.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long! I wonder what he’s going to be like. Is he going to be handsome? Will he like me?” She thought to herself.

Arachne lay down on the bed, still grinning from ear to ear. She couldn’t stop giggling.

Belladonna didn’t want to, but she found herself walking towards Cassius’s room. He hadn’t come out of his room since morning, and she was curious.

She knocked on the door for a while, but didn’t get any response. Her concern grew, and she decided to open the door and enter.

As she stepped inside, she gasped in shock. Cassius was lying on the ground, surrounded by empty pots of alcohol. She rushed towards him, helping him up. He reeked of alcohol, and his eyes were glazed over.

“You could get in trouble for drinking alcohol in school,” Belladonna said worriedly, trying to keep her tone light. “What came over you?”

Cassius chuckled, his eyes taking on a faraway look.

“You wouldn’t say anything, right?” he slurred.

Belladonna’s expression turned stern. “Cassius, you have to get back to your senses. This isn’t like you.” She said.

But Cassius’s expression turned bitter, his eyes filling with tears. He suddenly cupped Belladonna’s cheeks, his grip tight.

“How could you do that to me?” he asked drunkenly, his voice cracking with emotion.

“How could you choose that human over me? I’ve been by your side forever, and you went ahead and chose him. How could you?” He said.

Belladonna’s eyes filled with tears, her heart aching with sadness. She was sad that Cassius was in pain because of another girl, while she was in pain because of him.

“You’re so pathetic,” Belladonna said, her voice trembling with tears. And help him to his bed.

Cassius’s face contorted in pain, and he dragged Belladonna down to the bed with him. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.

“Stay with me, Maledicta,” he whispered into her ear, his breath hot and alcohol-laced.

Belladonna’s tears poured down, her heart breaking into a million pieces. She realized in that moment that she was tired of waiting for Cassius, tired of being in love with someone who didn’t love her back.

She made up her mind immediately; she was done waiting. She was done loving Cassius. She gently pushed him away, trying to extricate herself from his grasp.

But Cassius held on tight, his eyes closed in a drunken stupor. Belladonna sighed, feeling a sense of resignation wash over her. She would have to wait until Cassius sobered up to have a proper conversation with him.
