A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 101 – 110

The door at the end of the hallway creaked open, and I turned to see Lucien stepping in. His expression was as neutral as ever, though I knew better than to assume he didn’t sense the tension in the air. Lucien was many things, but oblivious was not one of them.

“Lord Lucifer,” he greeted with a small bow, his voice smooth and steady. “The passport and everything else is ready for your journey.”

“Good timing,” I replied, shifting my focus away from the residual chaos that Mammon had left behind.

Lucien’s timing was impeccable, as always. There was much to be done, and leaving the mansion for a short while was now a necessity. ” I have few business in hell… Will deal with that first ”

“What of Selene?” he asked cautiously, as if gauging my mood.

I smiled, though it was a hollow gesture. “She’s mourning,” I replied, the amusement in my voice not entirely masked. “Liam’s death has… shaken her, as expected. But she’ll recover. She’s stronger than she knows.”

Lucien’s eyes remained impassive, though I caught the faintest hint of something—perhaps concern—beneath his mask. “Liam dead?”

“He’s already gone,” I said dismissively. “died foolishly .”

As I walked down the hallway, Lucien fell into step beside me, his usual silent, steady presence a stark contrast to the chaos that still lingered in my mind.

The mansion was quiet, the early morning light painting everything in soft gold, but beneath that serene exterior, a storm was brewing. I could feel it in the air, in the way the shadows seemed to stretch and bend as I passed.

“The arrangements have been made,” Lucien continued, his voice low. “The jet is ready, and I’ve taken care of the documentation.”

“Good,” I replied, though my thoughts were only half with him.

Selene’s face flashed in my mind, the way her eyes had widened when she saw Liam’s body, the way her shoulders had crumpled under the weight of it all.

I could still hear her sobs, broken and desperate, and for a moment, a strange feeling tugged at me—a feeling I couldn’t quite place.

I pushed it aside, unwilling to acknowledge it. I wasn’t like her. I didn’t have the luxury of being affected by mortal grief.

She would understand, in time.

As we reached the grand staircase that led down to the main foyer, Lucien stopped, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Is there anything else you require before you leave, my lord?”

I paused at the top of the staircase, my hand resting on the cool marble railing as I gazed down at the grand, empty hall below.

“Ensure she doesn’t leave the mansion,” I said quietly, my tone final. “She’ll be vulnerable in her current state. I don’t want any unnecessary distractions.”

Lucien bowed his head slightly. “Of course.”

With that, I descended the staircase, my footsteps echoing off the marble floors.

The world outside the mansion faded from my mind the instant I felt the slightest tug on my clothes.

Pausing mid-step, I turned slowly, my gaze settling on Selene. She was a sight to behold, yet far from her usual radiance.

Blood spattered across her skin, a reminder of the lifeless form she’d left behind, and her once-bright eyes were now dull, hollow—shadows of what they once were.

There she stood, a broken silhouette framed against the dim hallway, her shoulders sagged and her gaze fixed on me.

Tears slipped down her cheeks, slow and steady, like they’d given up the fight as much as she had.

Every inch of her trembled, yet she looked at me with a strange sense of purpose—a strange, haunting clarity in the storm of her despair.

My mind conjured a thousand possibilities of what she might say. Would she lash out in rage? Curse my name? Threaten to leave, though I knew she wouldn’t get far? Perhaps she’d scream that she hated me, that I’d torn her world apart.
