A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 121 – 130
I pulled him into the first room we passed, which happened to be a cozy, dimly lit bedroom, and shut the door behind us with a sigh of relief.
The moment I turned around, his smirk grew wider, his eyes gleaming with barely concealed delight. “Look who’s jealous,” he said, his voice smooth as silk.
He crossed his arms, leaning against the door casually, studying me with that same insufferable, knowing grin. “I have to admit, I rather like that.”
I could feel my cheeks warming, and I fought the urge to roll my eyes, determined to hold my ground. “Jealous?” I scoffed, trying to sound as dismissive as possible. “Hardly. I just don’t like… distractions.”
“Distractions?” he repeated, chuckling softly. “That’s one way to put it.”
“Yes,” I said firmly, crossing my arms. “We both know you’re—” I trailed off, struggling to find the right words, my frustration bubbling up again. “You’re far too… theatrical for someone like her.”
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “So you’re concerned about my taste in companions now? How thoughtful of you, Selene.”
I huffed, trying to ignore the way he was looking at me, like he was dissecting my every reaction. “Don’t flatter yourself.
I just think it’s unprofessional to… flaunt things in front of people who clearly don’t want to see it.”
“Ah, I see.” He took a step closer, closing the distance between us. “You’re protecting your own delicate sensibilities, then?”
I felt myself flush again and looked away, determined not to let him get under my skin. But he wasn’t finished.
In one smooth motion, he reached up, tracing his fingers along my jawline, tilting my chin up so I had no choice but to meet his gaze.
His touch sent an unexpected thrill down my spine, a reminder of how unsettlingly close he was.
“Selene,” he murmured, his voice low, the playful edge gone, replaced by something far more intense. “If you want my attention, all you have to do is ask.”
My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a sudden urge to pull away, but his grip was firm, his gaze steady. “Who said I wanted your attention?” I muttered, though my voice sounded weaker than I’d intended.
He leaned in closer, his breath warm against my cheek. “You didn’t have to say it,” he whispered, his lips grazing my skin. “I can feel it.”
I held my breath, torn between the urge to shove him away and the undeniable pull that kept me rooted in place. The heat of his proximity, the way his fingers brushed against my skin—it was maddening.
I swallowed, fighting to keep my composure. “Don’t assume you know what I want, Lucifer.”
“Oh, I’m not assuming anything,” he said, his voice almost a purr. “I’m simply… observing.”
I clenched my fists, determined not to let him keep playing this game. “Then observe this: I’m going to my room now. Alone.”
But instead of stepping back, he leaned even closer, his eyes gleaming with something dark and thrilling. “Are you sure about that, Selene?”
I opened my mouth to respond, but the words wouldn’t come. He had me pinned with his gaze, his expression unreadable, yet tantalizingly close to something deeper.
His hand slid from my jaw to my shoulder, tracing the line of my collarbone with an infuriating slowness.
For a moment, I was caught—caught in that space between him and the door, between wanting to push him away and wanting… well, something else entirely.
His fingers traced along my collarbone, lingering for just a second too long, sending a shiver down my spine that I struggled to suppress.
“Are you so certain you want to be alone?” he asked softly, his tone laced with a promise I wasn’t sure I was ready to confront.
Finally, I found my voice, though it was barely more than a whisper. “Yes,” I said, forcing myself to meet his gaze. “I want to be alone.”
He let out a quiet chuckle, his hand falling away, though his eyes never left mine. “As you wish, Selene,” he said, his voice dripping with amusement. “But don’t think for a second that I’ll forget this little moment.”
Without another word, he stepped back, allowing me to slip past him and out of the room.
I could feel his gaze following me all the way to the door, a smirk undoubtedly playing at his lips, but I didn’t look back.
As I made my way up the hall, my heart still racing, I couldn’t help but wonder which room is mine?
Do I even have a room here?
