A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 131 – 140
SELENE TOUR IN THE MANSION
SELENE EYES OPEN WIDE.
Waking up that morning, I stretched slowly, my arm bumping lightly against the warm figure next to me. Anna was still fast asleep, her breathing even and calm. Her messy hair splayed across the pillow as she snored lightly, making me smile. For once, the stillness felt comforting rather than oppressive.
I yawned, stretching once more before swinging my legs out of bed. The soft morning light was filtering through the window, casting gentle shadows across the room, and a surprising sense of calm washed over me.
As I tiptoed toward the bathroom, the plush carpet beneath my feet felt soft and welcoming. It was a little thing, but it felt like a luxury, and I savored it. In the bathroom, the faint scent of lavender hung in the air from the soaps neatly arranged on a glass shelf.
I turned the water on and let it run for a moment, waiting for it to warm. The sound of it filling the room was soothing, echoing slightly against the tile. When I finally stepped in, the warmth wrapped around me, easing away the tension that had somehow settled in my shoulders.
As I hummed softly under the shower, letting my mind wander, I made a silent promise to myself. Today, I was going to live – no holding back, no hesitation. I’d explore every inch of this mansion and truly experience it, the way I should’ve from the beginning.
After I stepped out, I grabbed a fluffy white towel, drying off before slipping into a comfortable pair of blue jeans and a snug tank top.
A glance over my shoulder revealed Anna, still sound asleep, unaware of the world around her. I gave her one last look, smiling at her peaceful face, before quietly slipping out of the room.
The hallway was long and lined with portraits, each figure staring down at me with eyes that seemed to follow as I moved.
The frames were ornate, gold-trimmed with intricate designs that hinted at stories I’d never know. I walked slowly, taking it all in, letting the faint scent of polish and old wood fill my senses.
My first stop was the dining room. I’d only seen it once before, and even then, only briefly. This time, I let myself fully appreciate its grandeur.
A massive chandelier hung from the ceiling, each crystal catching the light and refracting it into a thousand little rainbows across the room. The dining table was an impressive sight, long and made of dark wood, polished to a perfect shine.
It was set as if expecting guests at any moment, with fine china and silverware perfectly arranged, each piece gleaming under the light. The chairs were heavy, upholstered in deep red velvet, adding a touch of warmth to the otherwise imposing space.
From there, I wandered into the kitchen. It was vast, surprisingly modern with sleek appliances that contrasted with the traditional feel of the mansion.
Pots and pans hung from a rack above the central island, and the counters were a pristine marble. The smell of fresh herbs lingered in the air – rosemary, thyme, maybe a hint of basil.
I ran my hand along the countertop, feeling the cool, smooth surface under my fingertips. There was something grounding about this room, a sense of warmth and comfort despite its size.
Beyond the kitchen, I found myself drawn to a set of glass doors that opened into a garden. Stepping outside, I was greeted by the scent of blooming roses and fresh soil.
The garden was breathtaking, each section carefully tended to, as if nature had conspired with human hands to create a perfect harmony. Flowers of every color imaginable bloomed in well-organized clusters, their petals bright and vivid against the rich green of the leaves.
A cobblestone path wound through the garden, leading to a small fountain in the center, where water trickled down in a soft, melodic rhythm. I took a deep breath, letting the fresh air fill my lungs, feeling a sense of peace settle over me.
Reluctantly, I moved on, making my way back inside. My next stop was the balcony. It stretched along the side of the mansion, offering a view of the surrounding landscape that was as intimidating as it was beautiful. Trees spread out as far as I could see, their leaves swaying gently in the breeze.
I leaned against the railing, letting the wind play with my hair, feeling the expanse of the world open up around me. For a moment, I felt free, as if the mansion was merely a part of the landscape rather than a cage.
