A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 131 – 140
He let out a dramatic sigh, leaning back again, his hand over his heart. “Such cruelty, Selene. But I can handle it. After all, I’m devilishly resilient.”
“That you are,” I muttered, trying not to smile. “I’ll give you that much.”
He seemed pleased by my acknowledgment, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. “See, I knew you were warming up to me.”
I let out a huff. “I’m tolerating you, Lucifer. That’s all.”
“Ah, but tolerance is the first step to appreciation,” he said, his tone smooth as silk. “And who knows? One day, you might find that you actually like having me around.”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” I replied, giving him a pointed look. “Right now, I’m just trying to make it through the day without wanting to throttle you.”
His laughter filled the room, rich and warm. “If that’s the case, then I’d say we’re off to a great start.” He reached across the desk, resting his hand palm-up as if inviting me to take it. “Come, let’s start this morning together. Let me show you around properly.”
I stared at his hand, feeling my resolve waver. But after a moment, I rolled my eyes and reluctantly took it, feeling the warmth of his skin against mine. He smiled, a real one this time, soft and almost… genuine. It threw me off-guard.
“Good choice,” he said, giving my hand a gentle squeeze before releasing it.
For once, I felt like maybe there was more to this devil than the arrogance he wore so easily. But just as the thought crossed my mind, he gave me a sly look and added, “And you can admit it, you’re having a bit of fun.”
I groaned, pulling my hand away. “You just had to ruin the moment, didn’t you?”
“Oh, Selene,” he laughed, standing up and stretching. “Ruin? No, I’d say I made it unforgettable.”
I couldn’t help the faint smile that crept onto my lips, no matter how hard I tried to hide it. “Whatever helps you sleep at night, Lucifer.”
Lucifer led me down the grand hallway, and I followed, the soft sound of our footsteps echoing in the quiet mansion. We soon reached the library — a sprawling, sunlit room with floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with every book imaginable.
A warm glow bathed the room from the tall, arched windows that lined one wall, making the library feel almost alive with a gentle golden light.
He held the door open, gesturing grandly for me to enter. “you first darling,” he said with a hint of playfulness.
I rolled my eyes but stepped inside, marveling once again at the sheer volume of books. They weren’t just stacked on the shelves; some sat on tables, and others were arranged in piles on the floor, like secrets waiting to be discovered.
Lucifer walked in behind me, crossing the room with that same effortless grace, and settled himself in an armchair near a large window. He looked perfectly at ease, like he belonged in this elegant, ancient space. I joined him, choosing a seat across from him and feeling the silence settle between us, warm but expectant.
“Lucifer,” I began, my voice quieter than I’d intended. “I wanted to ask you something.”
His gaze shifted to me, his red eyes attentive. “Ask away,” he replied smoothly, though his tone held a faint trace of curiosity.
“It’s… about Anna,” I said, hesitating as I thought about her. “she said she is six? How is that possible”
Lucifer’s expression softened a little, and he leaned back, crossing his legs casually. “She’s fine, Selene. Just something you need not worry ?”
I glanced around, struggling to find the right words. “I just… I know she is your daughter, but she kept saying she will die soon and I should marry you.”
“Different environments have different effects on people,” he replied, his tone calm. ” Forget all what she said, Be rest assured, Anna is being well” He gave me a knowing look, almost as if he could see the worry behind my words.
