A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 161 – 170

The room beyond was dimly lit, the air thick with the scent of old paper and something metallic. Shelves lined the walls, crammed with books and scrolls that looked as though they hadn’t been touched in centuries.

A desk sat in the center, its surface cluttered with papers, quills, and strange artifacts I couldn’t begin to name.

Curiosity got the better of me. I stepped inside, my heart pounding in my chest.

One particular piece of paper caught my eye. It was tucked beneath a heavy book, its edges frayed with age. I slid it free carefully, my fingers trembling as I unfolded it.

At first, the words didn’t make sense. They were written in a language I couldn’t read, the letters jagged and alien. But then my eyes fell on a single phrase written in bold, clear script at the bottom of the page:

*”Not human.”*

I stared at the words, my breath hitching.

What did that mean? It could be about Lucifer, of course he is not human.

The page seemed to blur before my eyes as the weight of the words sank in. It couldn’t be true. I was human—I’d always been human.

Anna words ring in my head again, she did told me I wasn’t human, I thought she was joking.

I clutched the paper tightly, my mind racing. Questions flooded in, each one more terrifying than the last. Was this why Lucifer had taken an interest in me? Did he know something I didn’t?

A mirror was right there and when I look at my reflection, I couldn’t move, someone else was staring at me, with huge black horn and red eyes, just like a devil.

The sound of footsteps snapped me out of my thoughts.

Panic surged through me as I shoved the paper back beneath the book. I turned. The door creaked open, and I froze, my heart hammering in my chest.

But it wasn’t Lucifer standing in the doorway.

It was someone else—a man with piercing blue eyes and an aura that felt strangely calming, yet undeniably powerful. His white hair caught the faint light, giving him an almost ethereal glow.

“Selene,” he said, his voice soft but firm. “We need to talk.”

I stared at him, every instinct screaming at me to run, but something about his presence held me in place.

“Who are you?” I managed to ask, my voice trembling.

“My name is Gabriel,” he said, stepping further into the room. “I’m here to help you.”

“Help me?” I repeated, skepticism lacing my tone. “Why would I need your help?”

He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, his gaze flicked to the desk, to the paper I’d just been reading. A flicker of understanding crossed his face, and he sighed.

“You’ve seen it, haven’t you?” he said. “The truth about what you are.”

I took a step back, my hands curling into fists. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You’re not human, Selene,” he said gently, as though breaking the news to a child. “You never have been.”

His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I wanted to deny it, to call him a liar, but the look in his eyes told me he was telling the truth.

“What am I, then?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

“That’s a complicated question,” Gabriel said. “But what you need to know right now is that you’re in danger. Lucifer isn’t telling you everything. He has plans for you—plans you won’t like.”

A chill ran down my spine. I thought back to the paper, to the strange language and the ominous words scrawled across it.

“Why should I trust you?” I asked.

“Because I’m the only one willing to tell you the truth,” he said. “Lucifer is powerful, but he’s not invincible. If you stay here, you’ll never escape his influence.”
