A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 171 – 180

IN LUCIEN’S ARMS 2

SELENE GASP

The house was unlike anything I’d ever seen before—more modern than the old mansion Lucifer had brought me to earlier. This place felt alive, humming with warmth, like a carefully curated dream.

The walls were a soft cream, interrupted only by massive windows that let the golden glow of the evening pour in. But it didn’t feel like home. How could it, when I was here with Lucien of all people?

A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 171 – 180

He’d left me alone in the living room to “settle in,” though I had no idea what that even meant. Settle into what? The realization that my life had spiraled so far out of control I didn’t know which way was up anymore?

I traced a finger over the smooth, polished surface of the coffee table, trying to distract myself from my growing unease.

Every part of me wanted to march right out the front door and find a way back to…back to where? The house where my aunt and cousin had died? The restaurant where I washed plates and drowned in exhaustion?

No, I wasn’t sure where I belonged anymore.

The sound of footsteps snapped me out of my thoughts. Lucien strolled into the room, his hands tucked into his pockets, his gaze sharp and assessing as it landed on me. I didn’t know why, but his stare always made me feel like I was being dissected under a microscope.

“Comfortable?” he asked, his tone neutral, but there was an edge to it, as if he expected me to complain.

“I guess,” I replied, my voice tight. “Why am I here, Lucien?”

He smirked, the kind of smirk that made me want to punch him. “Straight to the point. I like that.”

“Answer me,” I pressed, crossing my arms over my chest.

Lucien sauntered closer, his movements slow and deliberate, like a predator sizing up its prey. He stopped a few feet away, tilting his head as he studied me. “You’re here because Lucifer said so. That should be reason enough.”

“Not for me,” I shot back. “I’m not some pawn you and Lucifer can just move around whenever it suits you. I deserve answers.”

His smirk faltered, just for a second, and his eyes darkened. “You think this is about what you deserve? You don’t understand what you’ve gotten yourself into, Selene.”

“Then explain it to me!” I snapped, taking a step forward. “Because I’m done being left in the dark.”

Lucien let out a low chuckle, though there was no humor in it. “You think you can handle the truth? Fine.

You’re here because Lucifer doesn’t trust anyone else to protect you. You’re a liability, Selene, whether you like it or not. And if you think I’m thrilled about babysitting you, think again.”

His words stung, but I refused to let him see it. “Protect me from what?”

“From yourself, for starters,” he muttered, running a hand through his white hair. “And from the people who’d love to see you dead just to get to him.”

My stomach twisted. “What people? Who would want to hurt me?”

Lucien’s jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought he might actually answer me. But then he shook his head and turned away. “It doesn’t matter. Just do as you’re told, and maybe you’ll live long enough to figure it out.”

I clenched my fists, frustration bubbling up inside me. “You don’t get to talk to me like that. I didn’t ask for any of this!”

“And yet, here you are,” he said, his voice cold. “So maybe you should start asking yourself why that is.”

We stood there in silence, the tension between us so thick it felt like a physical weight pressing down on my chest.

Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. “Why do you hate me so much?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
