A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 171 – 180
THE DEVIL’S ANGER 2
LUCIFER FROWN.
I stood in the doorway, my heart pounding in my chest, but it wasn’t fear that fueled the rhythm—it was rage. The room was a chaos of shadows and cries, but I barely registered the scene before me. My eyes were fixed on Selene, her tear-streaked face a portrait of despair that twisted something deep within me.
“Lucifer…” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the cacophony. The moment I heard my name on her lips, I felt a surge of something dark and potent.
I scanned the room, taking in the sight of Lucien sprawled on the floor, bloodied and broken. But the sight barely registered. My focus was entirely on her—the woman who had betrayed me in the most intimate way possible.
“You think you can plead for him?” I growled, stepping further into the room. My voice dripped with disdain, echoing against the walls.
Selene’s eyes widened, and I saw the flicker of fear dance across her features. “Lucifer, please,” she begged, her voice trembling. “I didn’t mean—”
“Didn’t mean what?” I interrupted, my voice rising. “Didn’t mean to kiss him? Didn’t mean to break your promise? You think your apologies will mend what you’ve shattered?”
Her sobs filled the air, a wretched sound that clawed at my insides. I hated that I still cared—that my heart still ached for her despite the betrayal. “You were supposed to be different, Selene. You were supposed to be mine.”
Her gaze dropped to Lucien, lying helplessly on the floor, and I could see the conflict raging within her. But I didn’t care about him. Not now. Not after what she had done. “Look at what you’ve done!” I spat, my anger boiling over. “You’ve put him in danger, and for what? A moment of weakness? A foolish kiss!”
“I’m sorry!” she cried out, her voice breaking. “I never wanted this! I thought I could—”
“Thought you could what?” I took a step closer, my presence looming over her. “Thought you could play with fire and not get burned? and now you want forgiveness? You think you deserve it?”
The demons stood at the ready, their eyes gleaming with anticipation, but I held up a hand, silencing them. I wanted her to feel the weight of this moment, to understand the consequences of her choices.
“Please, I’ll do anything,” she begged, her tears a river of regret. “Just don’t let them stop.”
Her desperation was palpable, and for a fleeting moment, I felt a pang of something—pity, perhaps. But it was quickly overshadowed by the anger that coursed through my veins. She had chosen him over me. She had broken my trust.
“Anything?” I repeated, my voice low and dangerous. “You think offering yourself to me will erase your betrayal? You think I will simply forget?”
“I’ll make it right!” she insisted, her eyes pleading. “I’ll never betray you again. Just please, let them stop!”
I didn’t respond immediately. I stood there, watching her, savoring the moment. The way her shoulders trembled, the way her breaths came in ragged gasps—it was almost satisfying to see her like this.
“Very well,” I finally said, my voice cold. “You want to save him? You want to protect him?” I turned my gaze to Lucien, who was struggling to breathe, the life slowly draining from him. “Then let’s see how far your resolve goes.”
I stepped back, glancing at the demons. “Do as you wish with him. But leave her unharmed. She’s still mine to deal with.”
The demons grinned, their grotesque features twisting into malicious smiles as they moved closer to Lucien. I felt a surge of satisfaction at the thought of his suffering, knowing that it was a direct consequence of her actions.
“Lucifer, please!” Selene’s voice broke through the haze of my anger. “Don’t do this! He’s not worth it!”
“Worth it?” I laughed, the sound hollow and devoid of humor. “You think this is about him? No, Selene. This is about you and your choices. You brought this upon yourself.”
I turned to leave, but her voice followed me. “I’ll fix this! I promise! Just give me a chance!”
But I didn’t look back. I couldn’t. The sight of her desperation was too much, and I needed to distance myself from the chaos. I stepped into the corridor, leaving behind the echoes of her pleas and the laughter of the demons.
As I walked away, I felt the weight of her betrayal settle heavily on my chest. I had given her my trust, my affection, and she had thrown it all away for a fleeting moment with another man. It was infuriating. It was unforgivable.
The demons would have their fun, and I would let them. I had no intention of intervening. Let her watch as Lucien suffered for her choices. Maybe then she would understand the true nature of the darkness she had danced with.
