A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 191 – 200

The world around me tilted on its axis. I felt as if the ground had been yanked from beneath my feet. “No,” I murmured, my voice trembling. “No, that can’t be true. She was just… she was just here.”

Mirabel nodded. “ hmm.”

” Where is Lucifer?” I asked, she gave me one of those looks, I knew for a fact that she hates speaking to me or telling me stuffs.

” The garden”

My feet moved before I could think, the urgency of the moment propelling me forward. I rushed down the hallway, past the dark-clad maids who seemed to part for me, their sorrow palpable in the air. I felt like a ghost gliding through a realm of shadows, my heart pounding in my chest.

The garden was just beyond the ornate doors, a place that had always felt like a sanctuary. As I pushed the doors open, the scent of damp earth and blooming flowers filled my lungs. But the beauty of the garden felt muted, overshadowed by the loss hanging in the air.

And then I saw him.

Lucifer sat on a stone bench, his posture hunched and defeated. A glass of dark liquid rested in one hand, while the other cradled a cigarette, the smoke curling into the air like tendrils of sorrow. The usual fire in his eyes was replaced with a dull sheen, as if the light had been extinguished.

“Lucifer,” I breathed, my heart aching at the sight of him. I approached cautiously, not wanting to startle him, but needing to be near him. The moment I stepped closer, he looked up, and his gaze met mine, they was no pain or whatsoever in them.

“Selene,” he said, his voice rough and strained. It was a sound I had never heard before, one that echoed with despair. “You shouldn’t be here.” he cleared his voice

“Why not? I want to be with you,” I replied, my voice steady despite the turmoil churning within me. “We can face this together.”

He scoffed, the sound bitter, and took a long drag from his cigarette, exhaling the smoke in a slow, deliberate manner. “There’s nothing to face, Selene. Anna is gone, and it’s not a big deal”

I felt a wave of sorrow wash over me, mingling with the anger bubbling just beneath the surface. “You can’t blame yourself for this,” I said, my tone firm. “You did everything you could.”

“like I said!” he shot back, his voice rising with frustration. “its not a big deal she died, I always knew she would die, I knew that from the very beginning.” he is trying his best to be strong.

I knelt beside him, my hands finding his as I searched his gaze for the man I loved beneath the layers of grief. “Lucifer, you don’t have to pretend, you can cry if you want to. Anna knew you loved her. She wouldn’t want you to drown in this sorrow…… get it off your chest”

He turned his gaze from me, staring into the distance as if searching for answers in the horizon. “you won’t believe what I say?” he said, his voice a low growl. “this is not something that would make cry, am the devil, I hardly feel things.”

” I don’t believe that ”

For a moment, his expression softened. “i have no more words for you.”

I felt a surge of frustration, a need to break through the barrier he had erected. “I understand more than you think. Lucifer, I know you loved anna”

He finally met my gaze, and I could see the battle raging within him. “This isn’t a fairy tale, Selene. There are real consequences, and I’m not sure I can protect you from them.”

“ me?” I said, my voice rising with passion. “what do you mean protect me?”

He sighed, the weight of his frustration palpable in the air between us. “You won’t understand ”

“Then tell me” I challenged, my heart racing. “if they is anything that involves me, I wish to know ”

“Lucifer,” I began softly, my heart racing, “what did you mean when you said you wanted to protect me? Protect me from what?”i asked once more

He turned his gaze away from mine, his expression clouded with a mix of sorrow and something darker. “It’s complicated, Selene. You don’t need to know everything.”

“Of course I do!” I insisted, my voice rising with frustration. “If you care about me, you’ll trust me enough to share the truth. I can handle it. Whatever it is, I want to be there for you.”

He sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair, and I could see the tension in his shoulders. “You don’t understand what you’re asking for. There are things that go beyond even my comprehension, things that could change everything for us. I can’t let that happen.”
