A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 211 – 220
I sprinted after the girls, my legs pumping as we fled into the darkness. We didn’t stop until we reached a clearing, far from the compound.
“What now?” I panted, feeling both exhilarated and terrified.
“you need to keep moving,” the brown-haired girl said, her eyes scanning the area. They will come after you.”
I nodded, adrenaline still coursing through me. “thank you” I said, my voice firm.
The chill of the night air wrapped around me like a shroud as I sprinted through the dense forest, my breath coming in ragged gasps.
The moon hung high above, casting a silvery glow on the path ahead, illuminating the uneven ground that seemed to shift beneath my feet.
Each step felt like a battle between my will to survive and the overwhelming fear clawing at my chest.
I could hear them behind me—the men from the compound, their voices echoing through the trees, mingling with the sounds of the night. “She went this way!” one shouted, urgency threading through his words. I couldn’t let them catch me. I had to keep moving, had to find a way to escape.
My heart raced as I navigated the forest floor, littered with fallen branches, leaves, and roots that twisted like serpents underfoot.
I focused on my footing, each stride a desperate attempt to distance myself from the looming threat. Adrenaline surged through my veins, propelling me forward as I ducked and weaved through the trees.
The branches clawed at my arms, scratching my skin as I pushed deeper into the underbrush. I felt the sting of their rough bark, but I didn’t have time to register the pain. I had to keep running. I had to survive.
As I sprinted, I could hear the snap of twigs and the rustle of leaves behind me. They were gaining on me, their footsteps heavy and relentless.
Panic threatened to consume me, but I fought it down. I couldn’t afford to be afraid. I scanned my surroundings, searching for any sign of a path, a way out, anything that could lead me to safety.
The trees loomed tall around me, their branches forming a canopy that filtered the moonlight into faint beams. I took a sharp turn, my feet barely keeping up with my frantic mind.
I jumped over a fallen log, feeling the rush of wind as I leaped, and landed with a thud on the other side. The impact sent a jolt through my body, but I barely noticed; I had to keep going.
The forest was alive with sounds—the rustling of small animals in the underbrush, the whisper of the wind through the leaves—but all I could focus on was the pounding of my heart and the footsteps behind me. Every instinct screamed at me to flee, to escape the danger that lurked just out of sight.
I pushed harder, my legs burning with effort as I navigated the dense foliage.
The smell of damp earth and pine filled my lungs, grounding me in the moment even as fear threatened to overwhelm me. I needed to find a way to lose them. I couldn’t let them catch me; I wouldn’t go back.
Suddenly, I stumbled into a clearing, the moonlight shining down in a breathtaking cascade. I paused, my heart racing as I listened intently.
The sounds of the forest surrounded me, but the men’s voices were still close, their shouts echoing through the trees.
“Where did she go?” one called, frustration evident in his tone.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I couldn’t risk stopping, not now. I glanced around the clearing, searching for any sign of a way out. My eyes fell on a thicket of bushes on the far side, a dense barrier that could provide cover.
Without hesitation, I darted toward the thicket, my feet pounding against the soft earth. I could hear their voices growing louder, the sounds of branches snapping underfoot.
