A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 211 – 220
LUCIFER SMILED
I stood at the edge of the forest, the cool night air wrapping around me like a familiar cloak.
The trees towered above, their branches whispering secrets in the wind, but I was not here for idle chatter.
I could feel the tension in the air, a palpable energy that crackled under the surface. Something was wrong, and I needed to find her.
The scent of pine and damp earth filled my lungs as I took a step forward, the moonlight filtering through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground.
I had been drawn here, pulled by an instinct that was as ancient as time itself. Selene was in trouble, and I could feel it deep in my bones.
As I moved deeper into the woods, my senses heightened. I could hear the rustle of leaves, the distant hoot of an owl, but beneath it all was the unmistakable sound of her heartbeat—fast, frantic, filled with fear.
My heart ached at the thought of her in distress. She was strong, resilient, but even the strongest could break under the weight of despair.
And then I saw her.
She burst into a small clearing, her silhouette framed by the bright moonlight.
I froze for a moment, taking in the sight of her. Selene looked weary, her hair wild and unkempt, clothes torn from her frantic escape.
The expression on her face was a mixture of fear and exhaustion, a haunting reminder of the struggle she had endured.
My heart ached at the sight; it was a visceral response that I couldn’t ignore.
She stopped short, her gaze locking onto mine. In that moment, it felt as if time stood still.
The world around us faded into the background, leaving just the two of us suspended in that clearing.
I could see the turmoil in her eyes, the unshed tears glistening like stars against the backdrop of her distress.
Without a word, I widened my arms, a silent invitation, a promise of safety.
I could see the flicker of hope ignite in her gaze, and it was as if the weight of the world had shifted.
She didn’t hesitate. She ran into my embrace, collapsing against me, her body shaking with sobs.
The moment her warmth enveloped me, a rush of emotions flooded through me. I held her tightly, feeling her tears soak through my shirt.
It was a bittersweet comfort, the ache of her pain mingling with the relief of having her close.
I had spent too long in the shadows, while shs suffer from a distance, and now that I could hold her, I would not let her go.
“Selene,” I whispered, my voice barely above a breath, as if saying her name would shatter the fragile moment.
I could feel her trembling, her body wracked with sobs that seemed to echo the turmoil within her.
She clung to me as if I were her lifeline, and I tightened my grip, grounding her in my embrace.
“I thought… I thought I’d die” she finally managed to say between gasps, her voice muffled against my chest.
It pierced me to the core, the realization of how close she had come to being lost forever.
“You’ll never die” I promised, my breath warm against her hair. “Never” I could feel her heartbeat against my chest, a steady rhythm that began to calm my own racing heart.
