A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 41 – 50
After finishing my meal, I stood up and started gathering the plates. “Let me help you with the dishes,” I offered, already moving toward the sink. Liam chuckled and shook his head, but he didn’t stop me.
“You don’t have to. You’re my guest,” he said, though there was no real protest in his voice.
“I insist,” I replied with a smile, filling the sink with hot water and soap. The mundane action of washing dishes grounded me, the warm water soothing as it ran over my hands. Liam stood next to me, drying the dishes I passed him, and for a while, we worked in comfortable silence.
After a few minutes, Liam finally spoke. “I missed this. You know, just hanging out with you like this,” he said, his voice soft and a little nostalgic.
I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye, a small smile tugging at my lips. “Yeah, me too. Things have been… crazy.”
“Crazy doesn’t even begin to cover it,” he muttered, shaking his head with a small laugh. “But I’m glad you’re here now.”
We fell into easy conversation after that, sharing little jokes and laughing about old memories. For a while, it felt like nothing had changed, like I hadn’t just been running for my life.
Liam always had a way of making me feel normal, like everything would be okay. His presence was comforting, a reminder of the simpler times before all of this chaos.
As we worked, I caught him looking at me a few times, his gaze lingering on me longer than usual. Eventually, I couldn’t help but laugh, setting down the plate I was scrubbing and turning to face him.
“What is it?” I asked, amused.
Liam blushed, scratching the back of his neck as he avoided my eyes for a second. Then, with a shy smile, he looked back at me. “You really look beautiful in my clothes,” he admitted softly.
His words caught me off guard, and before I could even respond, he took a step closer, leaning in slightly. “Can I kiss you?” he asked, his voice barely more than a whisper.
I felt my heart skip a beat at the question. My eyes widened in surprise, and I found myself momentarily speechless.
“Liam…” I started, my voice hesitant.
“Just a peck,” he said quickly, as if to reassure me. Without waiting for my answer, he gently kissed my cheek, his lips warm against my skin. It was soft, sweet, and before I could react, he pulled back, his eyes searching mine with concern.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice laced with worry.
I nodded, feeling a strange mix of emotions. The lightness of the moment had shifted, and now the air between us felt heavier, more serious. I closed my eyes, trying to process everything. Liam was… Liam. He had always been there for me, always cared about me in a way that made me feel safe.
And yet, just as his face inched closer to mine, the doorbell rang, shattering the moment. My eyes flew open, and I quickly stepped back, putting distance between us.
“I’ll check,” I mumbled, my voice shaky. Without waiting for a response, I hurried toward the door, grateful for the sudden interruption.
As I opened the door, I froze, my heart nearly stopping at the sight before me. Lucifer stood on the other side, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit that made him look even more otherworldly than usual.
His presence was overwhelming, his tall frame casting a shadow over the doorway. The streetlights behind him illuminated his features, casting sharp, angular shadows across his face.
I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. My eyes locked onto him, and that same strange, burning sensation ignited in my chest. Every time I looked at him, my body reacted in ways I couldn’t control. It was like being drawn into a fire, the heat of it both terrifying and… thrilling.
He smiled, and the sight made my stomach flip. Not in a bad way, but… not in a good way, either. It was confusing, this pull he had over me. The way his mere presence made me feel both safe and in danger at the same time.
“Selene,” his voice was like velvet, smooth and captivating, pulling me back to reality. His golden eyes locked onto mine, how many eye contacts does he owned?
I felt myself unable to look away. “I don’t like the fact that you’re with another man.” His lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, and he stepped closer, widening his arms in invitation. “Come. I’ll take you home.”
I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could say anything, Liam appeared at my side, his hand reaching out to gently take mine. “Who is he?” Liam’s voice was firm, but I could feel the tension in his grip. He stared at Lucifer, his eyes narrowing in suspicion.
I could feel the shift in the atmosphere, the air growing thicker with every passing second. My heart raced as I looked between the two of them. This wasn’t a situation I had ever wanted to be in.
Lucifer’s eyes flicked down to where Liam was holding my hand, his smile fading slightly. For a moment, the playful demeanor he had moments ago disappeared, replaced by something colder, more dangerous.
“He’s…” I started to explain, but my words trailed off as Lucifer’s gaze met mine again. His eyes were darker now, and there was a flicker of something I couldn’t quite place—jealousy? Anger?
“I don’t think she needs to explain anything to you,” Liam said coolly, his voice still calm . “She’s staying with me.”
Lucifer raised an eyebrow, as if mildly amused by Liam’s defiance. He took another step closer, and for a moment, I thought he might lash out. But instead, he simply smiled that same cold smile, his eyes never leaving mine.
“Selene, darling,” he said softly, ignoring Liam completely. “Let’s not make this difficult, hm? You and I both know you don’t belong here.” He smile ” I hate running errands myself, this is getting frustrating ”
The only thing I could think of is how to get my bag and how do I escape, can I even escape this place….. Will stun gun even work on him?
They is only one way to find out.
