A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 61 – 70
HIS WARNING 1
SELENE SMILE.
As soon as Liam left the room, the warmth of his embrace lingered, but it wasn’t enough to fight off the cold emptiness settling inside me. I forced my eyes closed, hoping for some kind of escape, but the moment I did, images of my aunt and cousin flashed before me—blood on the floor, their lifeless bodies.
My heart raced, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe. I rolled over, burying my face in the pillow, willing myself to shut everything out.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, sleep crept in, though it wasn’t the kind that brought peace.
When I opened my eyes again, I wasn’t in Liam’s house anymore.
I blinked, disoriented, looking around. The soft glow of a fire flickered in the corner of the room, casting shadows on the familiar dark walls. My breath caught in my throat. I was in the mansion. Lucifer’s mansion.
“How do you feel?” His smooth voice slid through the air, and I turned to see him sitting casually on the couch, his legs crossed, watching me with a slight smirk.
I swallowed, my throat dry. “This is a dream?” I asked, though deep down, I already knew the answer.
Lucifer’s smile widened, a knowing glint in his eyes. “Of course,” he said, leaning back into the cushions, completely at ease. “Right now, you’re in another man’s house. You went back to Liam.”
My chest tightened at the mention of Liam. How did Lucifer know? I took a step back, my mind scrambling to process everything. “How did you—”
“I know everything, Selene.” His voice was gentle, but the undercurrent of control was undeniable. “You’ve been through a lot tonight. So much loss… so much pain.”
His words cut through me like a knife, and I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. I didn’t want to think about my aunt, my cousin, the blood… but I couldn’t escape it. Not even here.
Lucifer stood up, his movements graceful as he crossed the room toward me. My heart hammered in my chest as he stopped just inches away, looking down at me with that same unreadable expression. “Would you like your aunt back?”
My breath caught, and I stared at him in disbelief. “What?” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
His eyes locked onto mine, the firelight reflecting off them in a way that made him seem even more dangerous, more powerful. “I can bring them back,” he said, each word dripping with temptation. “Your aunt, your cousin… they don’t have to be gone.”
I took a shaky step back, my mind racing. “How do you know?” I asked, my voice trembling. How did he know I wanted that? That despite everything, despite the way she treated me, I would give anything to undo the horror of tonight?
Lucifer’s smile softened, almost as if he was showing some kind of twisted kindness. “I know everything about you, Selene. I always have.” His voice was soft, seductive. “I know what you want, even if you haven’t admitted it to yourself yet.”
I could barely breathe. The thought of seeing my aunt again, alive and well, filled me with an overwhelming mix of emotions—confusion, longing, fear. But this was Lucifer. He must need something in return.
He stepped closer, closing the space between us, and I could feel the heat radiating from him. His presence was suffocating, magnetic. “All you have to do,” he murmured, his voice low and hypnotic, “is say yes. Make a deal with me”
The words hung in the air between us, the weight of his offer crushing. I wanted to wake up, but I couldn’t move. I could only stand there, staring at him, torn between the impossible choice he dangled before me.
Lucifer reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face, his touch sending a shiver down my spine. “You want them back,” he said softly. “I can feel it. You don’t have to be alone anymore, Selene.”
The word “alone” hit me like a punch to the gut. Alone. That was what I was now, wasn’t it? Completely and utterly alone. My parents were gone, my aunt and cousin… gone. The thought of waking up in Liam’s house, of facing the reality of my isolation, made my chest tighten in panic.
“I don’t…” I started to say, but my voice cracked, and I couldn’t finish the sentence. I didn’t know what I wanted. I didn’t know what to feel.
Lucifer leaned in closer, his breath warm against my skin. “You know you want them back,” he whispered. “And I can make that happen.”
I stepped back, my heart pounding in my chest as Lucifer’s words sank in. He was offering me everything I thought I wanted—the impossible, the undoing of the horror that had shattered my life. But the price… his price was too high. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t give myself to him.
“I can’t,” I whispered, my voice trembling but firm.
Lucifer’s gaze darkened, his predatory smile fading as he stared at me. “Can’t?” he repeated, his tone colder now, sharp as a blade. “Or won’t?”
I shook my head, taking another step back, desperate to put distance between us. His presence was suffocating, the heat of him pulling me in like a black hole. I needed to get away. “I won’t,” I said, louder this time, trying to sound braver than I felt. “I won’t make a deal with you.”
For a moment, Lucifer just stood there, his eyes boring into mine as if he was peeling back my very soul. I could feel the weight of his power pressing down on me, the air thick with the tension of what I’d just refused. My heart raced as I waited for his response, half-expecting him to lash out, to punish me for my defiance.
But instead, he smiled. A slow, dangerous smile that made my blood run cold. “You might regret this,” he said softly, his voice low and threatening, like the rumble of distant thunder.
Before I could even process his words, something shifted in the air around me. The room seemed to grow darker, the flickering firelight dimming, and the space between us stretched impossibly far. A cold chill swept through the room, raising the hairs on the back of my neck.
Then, out of the shadows, I saw him.
Liam.
