A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL : CHAPTER 61 – 70

My heart lurched in my chest. He appeared out of nowhere, laying just a few feet away, but something was terribly, horribly wrong.

His clothes were soaked in blood, his skin pale, eyes wide open but unseeing. Blood dripped from his fingers, pooling at his feet, staining the floor beneath him.

“No…” I gasped, my voice barely a whisper as fear clawed at my throat. “Liam!”

I rushed forward, my legs moving before I could even think, my breath catching in my chest. “Liam! Liam, please!” I fell to my knees beside him, grabbing his arm, shaking him.

His body was cold to the touch, lifeless. I shook him harder, my heart pounding, my voice rising in desperation. “Liam, wake up! Liam!”

There was no response. No flicker of recognition in his eyes. He was just… gone. The sight of him, covered in blood, his face pale and empty, twisted something deep inside me. Panic seized my chest, tightening like a vice, and I could barely breathe.

“Liam, please!” I screamed, shaking him harder, but he didn’t move, didn’t even flinch. My hands were covered in his blood now, slick and warm, and the smell of it filled the air, thick and metallic. “No, no, no… this isn’t happening,” I whispered, my voice breaking. Tears blurred my vision as I clutched him, my body shaking with fear and disbelief.

This couldn’t be real. It was a dream, just a horrible dream, I told myself. But it felt so real—too real.

The blood, the coldness of his skin, the emptiness in his eyes… it was like every nightmare I’d ever had had come to life in front of me.

I looked up, searching for some kind of answer, for anything that could explain this. And that’s when I saw him again. Lucifer, standing where he had been before, watching me with that same dark, amused expression. He hadn’t moved an inch, as if he was enjoying the show.

I froze, my heart pounding in my ears as his gaze met mine, cold and calculating.

“Do you understand now?” His voice was calm, but there was an edge to it, a warning. He took a step forward, his eyes never leaving mine. “If you remain disobedient, if you continue to defy me…” He gestured toward Liam’s lifeless body. “He might also die.”

I couldn’t breathe. My mind raced, trying to make sense of what he was saying. Was this a threat? Was he telling me that Liam would die—really die—if I didn’t do what he wanted? Why do he badly want me to make a deal with him?

“No…” I whispered, shaking my head, my chest tight with fear. “You can’t… you wouldn’t…”

Lucifer’s smile returned, sharp and cruel. “Oh, but I can,” he said softly, almost as if he were enjoying my horror. “And I will. If you don’t make a deal with me.” He bend down to my level, our face and inch apart, I couldn’t avert my gaze from him, he kept looking at me

” To think you kissed him ” Lucifer didn’t smile, it was rare to see him frown ” you really like to taste my patience selene” he lean close ” it’s starting to annoy me ” with that he close the space between us, his lips pressed on mine.

with a gasp, I woke up, my heart racing, drenched in sweat. I was back in Liam’s house, the morning light filtering through the curtains. But the terror, the threat, I hated myself for not thinking about that immediately.

My hands move to my lips, it felt so real…. I hate myself for liking it.

LIAM BLINK.

I woke up to the sting of a sharp slap across my face. My eyes snapped open, and I saw her—Selene, standing above me, her hand still raised, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and relief. My mind struggled to catch up. What the hell had just happened?

“Selene?” I sat up, rubbing my cheek, feeling the warmth of the slap still lingering there. “What—why did you hit me?”

For a moment, she didn’t say anything. She just stared at me, her chest rising and falling rapidly like she’d run a marathon. And then, before I could say another word, she threw herself at me, wrapping her arms tightly around my shoulders. I blinked, completely caught off guard.

“Are you okay?” I asked, my voice muffled as her hair brushed against my face. She was shaking—barely noticeable, but I felt it in the way her body pressed against mine, in the tightness of her grip. What had gotten into her? She was never like this.

She didn’t answer right away, just buried her face into my neck, holding on like I was the only thing keeping her grounded. I was used to her tough exterior, the way she held herself together even when things were bad, so this was… different. And kind of worrying.

I lifted my hand to her back, trying to be gentle. “Selene,” I murmured, my voice low. “What’s going on?”

For a second, she didn’t move. Then she pulled back slightly, enough to look at me, and I saw it—the raw fear in her eyes. But there was something else too—relief, like she’d just survived something terrible and was checking to make sure I was still here.

“God, what happened?” I asked again, softer this time.

She shook her head, not saying anything, and then she hugged me even tighter. My chest tightened. I didn’t know what had spooked her, but whatever it was, it had her shaken up more than I’d ever seen.

I exhaled slowly, trying to keep my voice light even though the worry was creeping up inside me. “You know,” I started, teasing her a bit, “if you keep acting this clingy, I might not let you go.”

She didn’t laugh. Didn’t even smile. That wasn’t like her. My teasing usually got a reaction, even if it was just her rolling her eyes at me. But now, she was completely silent, her face pressed into my shoulder, like she didn’t want to face the world right now.

I frowned, reaching up to tilt her chin so she’d look at me. “Selene, what happened?” I asked, my voice more serious this time.

For a moment, she didn’t answer, her eyes darting away, like she was looking for something to say. Then, slowly, she let go of me and sat back on the bed, but she didn’t go far. Her knees were still brushing against mine, her fingers twitching like she was fighting the urge to hold on again.

“I just… had a bad dream,” she finally muttered, tears drop from her eyes.

*********

I prefer Liam for her.
